Looks like Statistics is also an over 50% acceptance rate for SDSU. I love my alma mater, but I don’t really want her to go to SDSU. I certainly didn’t graduate with a weighted 4.0/4.1, nor did I take 26 semesters of AP and honors classes. I’m going to be bummer for her if low test scores relegate her to 2nd and 3rd choice schools.
@socalmom007: Things have changed since I am sure we both went to school. I went to Cal Poly Pomona and if you had a GPA of 3.0, you didn’t even have to submit test scores and you were accepted. Unfortunately, the reality is that all schools have gotten so competitive and SDSU is the 2nd most competitive CSU. Getting into SDSU is definitely not settling especially since I have a current Aztec attending whom worked very hard to get an acceptance.
The notion of the “dream school” should not be in any applicant’s vocabulary and getting in your first choice is not always possible. One of my favorite quotes is “bloom where you are planted”. I am sure your daughter will succeed where ever she ends up even at her 2nd or 3rd choice school.
You are 100% right, and I appreciate your feedback. Things have certainly changed in the 22 years since I graduated from college. I visited SDSU recently with my son who’s decided on Northern Arizona, I was super impressed with all of the improvements to the campus and their programs.
I must concur with @Gumbymom’s Bloom Where You’re Planted statement and many surveys bear that point. Historically, about 80% of people say they were happy with their undergraduate institution even if it was their safety school.
Interestingly, two of my son’s final three choices were safeties (he’s an ME at Poly). The fact that they were easy admits for him didn’t dissuade him from almost choosing to attend one of them. Remember, it’s all about fit, not bragging rights.
@eyemgh, where do you get the major specific acceptance rates that you were referring to (eg Stats 52% admission rate)? The ones I have seen are older. Thank you!
They are on the Cal Poly Institutional Research page under Projections.
