My D’s stats are, 3.93/4.0 uwGPA, 4.64/4.0 wGPA, 1540 SAT (800 Math, 740 Reading), 770 in SAT Math2, 730 in SAT Biology. She scored 5 in AP Biology, AP Govt, AP USH, 4 in AP world history, AP Lang and 3 in AP physics. She has taken 4 more APs in the senior year.
JHU is one of her top choices. What are her chances? She is applying for Biology/premed. Our family income is around 280K. Can we hope for financial aid or merit aid? Appreciate your response.
Her extracurriculars are centered around medical field like volunteering at hospital, shadowing doctor nurse etc, fund riser for kids with cancer, Red Cross, blood drive, classical dance and so on.
We visited the campus two times and she has on-campus interview next week.
I assume no FA, but you should run the net price calculator on the school website. About 10 freshman a year get merit aid per their Common Data Set, so my guess is that she will be full pay.
She seems to have stats that give her a good shot at acceptance.
It might be worth calling FA with last year’s tax returns and a list of your total assets handy. They told me that FA becomes less likely much above $300k but you come in under that. So depending on assets and number of kids in college, you might get some FA. Merit awards are rare at JHU.
@intparent and @Sam-I-Am , thank you so much for the response. I will get in touch with FA
Have you run the net price calculator? It is on the college website. It should give you a decent idea, unless you are divorced, have a small business, or own rental property (then it will show more aid than you likely would really get).
@intparent , yes I did. It was not encouraging. Looks like We won’t get anything
So assume you are full pay with no merit aid. If that is not something you are willing to pay for, now is the time to say so (not after she applies). You are not likely to get need based aid anywhere, but she could expect some decent merit at schools like Mount Holyoke, Dickinson, or Rhodes (just examples, there are a lot more like that). If she is pre-med, there is a lot to be said for attending a less expensive undergraduate program to save some money for med school.
@intparent , thanks again for your response. Yes, I am discussing various options with her. We are applying for some state school as well.
