Chance My Final College list?

Chance my final college list:
USC
UCLA
UC Davis
Pitzer College (test-optional)
Scripps College
UCSB
UC Riverside (Got in through GAP)
Loyola Marymount
NYU (I might cancel my application, I haven’t mailed in the payments yet)
SDSU
I might appeal to apply late to UCSC (Does anyone know how this process works?)

I applied for Business economics/Managerial economics (Davis) at the UC’s and Undeclared everywhere else.
Can anyone suggest any matches/safeties? I would like to stay in California, but I will consider out of state options. Cost is a factor.

About me:
Senior (Public high school)
Location: California
About me: African American, first-generation college student
GPA: 4.86 (weighted junior year second semester) 4.6 cumulative, i’ve maintained a 4.0 unweighted
Class rank: Top 4% in approximately 433 students
ELC at UC's
Course Load:
Sophomore year: 5 honors courses
Junior Year: 3 AP courses, 2 honors courses
Senior year: 5 AP courses, 1 honors
Essays: Amazing for the private schools on the list, my UC essays weren’t the best.
Teacher Recommendations: Great!
However… I'm not a great test taker.
26 ACT (27 super scored)
1760 SAT (1790 super scored)
660 US history
5 on AP US history Exam
EC’s
About 70 hours
Volunteering at my local library
Part of a club council, participated in mock trial (for almost 3 years)
Part of an advanced honor roll program (received the award consecutively for 6 semesters)
Featured in local newspaper for achievements
Finalist in a local competition for hypothetical policy implementation (law drafting)

Even with your low SAT score I think you have good chances because of your GPA and the fact that you’re African American and a first generation college student. Your extracurriculars are good but nothing outstanding.

Thanks, Can anyone suggest safety schools? I had a hard time picking schools because I’m undecided about my future career. Location and student diversity are really important factors. I’m considering Occidental (reach/match) and possibly Mills College (match/safety), but I heard they weren’t that great with financial aid.

What about match schools?

SAT is sorta low, but the rest of your app makes up for it well enough. Decent chances at most of your list. Good luck!

UCD: Match
UCSB: Match
SDSU: Safety
UCSC: Safety if you apply. Not sure how to apply late though.

I think you have a good shot for USC and UCLA also.

Just out of curiosity… How are you a bad test taker?

I have a low UW GPA because I am bad at subjective tests that teachers administer along with a general test anxiety. However, my SATs are still very high. I would assume that to get a 4.0 UW GPA you must be a good test taker? I’m good at SATs cause I don’t have to deal with the teacher BS, but I do poorly on teacher tests.

Also, I think your chances are also largely dependent on the rigor of your High School.

I’m not too sure about the rest, but NYU seems like a reach. However, African American and first generation could give you a fighting chance… I would go for it!

I’m the opposite, I do really well on teacher/in-class tests but I’m usually the last person to finish—It’s a timing issue.

The SAT scores will bring you down, unfortunately. Otherwise you look like you stand a fair chance.

Thanks! Do I have a chance at Occidental? I called the admission office and was informed that they super-score the ACT, which will give me a 27 composite (I won’t send the SAT).

Don’t worry too much. You got plenty of safety schools. Your URM status will help at the private schools. UCLA is the hardest school on your list given that they don’t look at race/recs.

USC - high match
UCLA - low reach
UC Davis - low match
Pitzer College - low reach
Scripps College - low reach
UCSB - low match
UC Riverside - safety
Loyola Marymount - safety
NYU - high match
SDSU - safety
UCSC - you dont need to. Safety
