-school doesn't offer honors classes, but mentions "due to the rigorous curriculum of the school, no classes are designated as honors" in school description.

My only B's have been graphic design freshman year, AP Gov last year(will a 5 on the exam atone for this), and a mandatory composition class at our school this summer? I got straight A's junior year.

-will mention Math, Economics, and Chemistry respectively as my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice majors. I want to be an investment banker or hedge fund manager when I grow up.

-I'm almost certain my PSAT score will qualify me for semifinalist standing in the NMS search. I didn't fill out Hispanic in the ethnicity section (didn't know about it at the time), so I wont get National Hispanic Recognition Program Honors.

Recommendations: I know several teachers at my school who like me and will probably write well about me.
Essay: 1) talk about high adventure programs in Boy Scouts
2) talk about how certain adversity in a trumpet competition didn't kill my trumpet passions.

My list:
Brown
UChicago
Duke
GaTech
Harvard
Northwestern
MIT
UPenn (Wharton)
Princeton
Rice
Stanford
WashUSTL
Yale

Oh, and MIT, UCHicago, and GA Tech are EA.

If you claim Hispanic, you have good chances at all.

Low Reach - Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale
High Match - Wharton, MIT
Match - Chicago, Brown
Low Match - Duke, Northwestern, Rice, WashU
In - Georgia Tech

bump…10 char

Hispanics are a big URM. Your chances improve significantly if only because of this. But that’s not the case, since you showcase a strong array of ECs (if a bit too numerous…limit your resume to what really counts) and quite good test scores and academics (I only say “quite good” because of the swarm of incredible applicants on CC, otherwise, they’re exceptionally good). I’d stay back from expressing your political viewpoints though. While it wouldn’t kill you, it could hurt your chances.

No, hispanics get the smallest boost of any of the URM categories.

It would be unusual for a student who sees himself as hispanic not to have checked that box on the PSAT, so you’ll find most mixed race kids who are given the boost have identified with the race enough to check the box. Also note that hispanic designation, as used by colleges, are hispanics from Mexico, Central America and PR, as these groups are sinificant in the US population and underrepresented at top colleges.

Being Hispanic helps. I like the dedication to playing the trumpet, focus on that. In fact, focus on that more than the eagle scouts, since many other people are eagle scouts. And you should keep the info about being a member of the Young Republicans. Although most colleges, particularly the Ivies, are more liberal, being a member of that committee shows dedication to a cause. The food critic club is very interesting and unusual, so I would also try to put some emphasis on that. However, your test scores and class load do show lopsidedness towards mathematics.

Match: GA tech, WashUSTL, Northwestern, Duke
High match: Brown, UChicago, Penn (regular)
Low reach: Rice
Reach: Harvard, MIT, UPenn (Wharton), Princeton, Stanford, Yale

^Your estimate seems skewed. Who has a better chance at Penn CAS, Brown, Chicago and Duke than Rice?

@cucumber1. I think your high match and low reach estimates may be mixed up, as I agree with billabongboy9828.

bump…do you think cucumber 1’s estimates for high match and low reach are mixed up.
