She's submitted both her SAT + Subject Tests and ACT to these schools; personally, I think she has a better shot with the ACT. Feel free to give your opinion on this.

Princeton
Brown
Dartmouth
Penn
Duke
Northwestern
Emory
Northeastern

^^^^ Not really, its not that much better than the 1400/1600; I am just a senior in high school, but since the scores are so close, I would suggest sending both......

Go to the Act website and see if you can convert the scores to see which one is better.....

Northwestern probably has decent chances but the rest with the exception of emory are high reaches.....Good Class rank....

Being from FLA unless her parents dont care or they are wealthy is pretty far from most of the schools listed. Duke and Emory are the closest. There's nothing wrong with UF, in some circles its a southern Ivy. I would add Davidson, Wake, Furman and UF. This will give more realistic choices. Of course if she gets into one of the real Ivies it might be worth the sacrifice.

I agree with Florida being a Southern Ivy, but she would have already needed to apply there a while ago because the RD deadline was Nov 1

Anyways, George2007's school choices are great, because Northwestern and Emory are the least selective schools there and those are a reach for someone with her stats

She's already gotten into FSU (probably with a full ride); she never applied to UF, so now she's just taking her chances with these schools.

Personally, I don't see how Northwestern and Emory are reach schools for her. At all. Both her SAT and ACT fall comfortably within their middle 50%, and obviously, her course load and GPA are outstanding. That's just my take on it, though. :) I was really more interested in what her Ivy chances were.

Yeah she has a chance everywhere (more or less all the top schools are still atleast low reaches) but her standardized tests are not going to exactly help her. sent the SAT i hope? its way better than the ACT

She shouldn't send her ACT, because it is converted to about a 2090-2100 on the SAT. Based on the prestige of her school and her excellent GPA, I think she has a decent shot at a lot of her schools. Her SAT Subject Tests are definitely going to be a weak part of her application, and her SAT isn't terribly high for Ivies. Her ECs don't have an apparent major hook, but those aren't absolutely required, but highly recommended for her level of test scores.
Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, Penn, I'd say, are Reach/ High Reaches for her. Based on her SAT Writing score, however arbitrary the test may be, I think she can make some really stellar essays and pull through to an Ivy with hard work.
Best of luck to her and congratulations to YOUR admissions.

I don't think the ACTs will make too much of a difference. Her SAT score is in the right range for all of those schools.
I think she's in Northeastern and probably Emory too. Northwestern is a match (but i'd say in more likely than not)
All those ivies (plus Duke) are crapshoots... who knows?

I agree with the person above me-- the essays will make all the difference in this case. She can use them to pull together her ECs, which are good but don't particularly stand out yet.

p.s. An answer to your comment about math skillz: I will take math in college because I enjoy it, but It's such an incredibly competitive field that I'm too intimidated to major in it. Thanks, though. And congrats on Rice, its an AMAZING school

Princeton - Medium Reach
Brown - Medium Reach
Dartmouth - Medium Reach
Penn - Low Reach
Duke - High Match
Northwestern - Match
Emory - Match
Northeastern - Safety

Personally, I think your friend has a great shot at Brown and UPenn for the Ivies. The other Ivies are high reaches for everyone, but she still has a great shot at those as well. Good Luck to you and your friend!
