What are my friend's chances of getting into MIT, Princeton, UPenn, Cornell, Berkeley, Rice, and Vanderbilt?

33 isn’t low by any means, and certainly not for Berkeley.

MIT: Reach
Princeton: Reach
UPenn: Reach
Cornell: Reach
Berkeley: Match
Rice: Reach
Vanderbilt: Reach

He definitely needs a safety, perhaps U Alabama could be his safety…

He told me that he thinks his reach schools are Georgia Tech and Auburn. Would Georgia Tech count as a safety or a match? And would being from Alabama or applying early anywhere affect his chances significantly?

I think georgia tech would be a match-high match. He has a great chance of being accepted there. Also he has as good a chance as anyone else to the other schools. It really will depend on his essays and letters of rec

Oh and being from Alabama definitely won’t hurt him, idk about how much it will help-he’s not from North Dakota or Montana where there are a signifIcantly lower amount of students applying. Applying early has its benefits in that you find out earlier and there is a higher acceptance rate; however, applying early in some cases may be binding. Also the quality of students applying early is usually better, which is why there is generally a higher acceptance rate ( along with the fact that these students made it clear that school “x” is their number one choice.

Berkley: Match
Rice: Match
Vanderbilt: Match
Cornell: High Match-Low Reach

others are all reaches but you can make one of them reachable with an early decision

chance back?

I also think he is a match for UCB. High match to low reach for Cornell and Rice.

GA Tech: Low match/Match
Auburn: Safety
