chance my friend

Stats:
2310 SAT
800, 800 Subject Test
231 PSAT - finalist
3.6 UC GPA

ECs good
Essays great
does he have a good chance even with crappy grades?

UCSD isn’t just about the grades and SAT scores
they use a point system.
leadership, extracurriculars, and talents are also important
[UC San Diego Comprehensive Review Admission Process: Freshman Selection, Fall 2008](http://www.ucsd.edu/prospective-students/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/freshmen/process.html)

he should try to have some leadership positions/make a club in addition to his ECs :D

but i think he’s a match.

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

UC GPA’s are always weighted, 8 semesters.

He looks like he’s be a match, assuming he has some EC’s and other stuff.

The 3.6 UC GPA, in addition to the lack of “leadership” might keep him out, but his scores are nice.

There are a few things that could help him get in, such as first generation college student, low income, summer class. Does he have those?

I met a UG student with a 3.2 GPA in High School, he got in with many ECs and he is totally cool! He isn’t first gen tho.

I got in with scores MUCH MUCH lower than ur friends. It just depends on how well the essays are and how unique they are as well. Also if he is in ELC chances are, they he has a higher chance of getting in.

I say he has a high chance. They really do look for leadership and commitment in ECs. One of the admission people were talking in the overnight program and they said that they enjoyed seeing people with highly committed ECs as well as 3+ years of sports and leadership, but they also liked the diversification of the students, and how each student wrote their essays!

Essays, they said, told them A LOT about the student, and they enjoyed reading unique ones, it 'brightened up their day" she said :).

“Scores are not everything, but it’s a nice addition.” She also said !

nice score…you’re probably a really good test taker
i got in with a 1730 -___-
but a 4.1
i think you have a fairly good chance
