Most of your schools are unrealistic reaches given your rank and if you’re anticipating a 2100 SAT score. As an Indian candidate (even though US citizen) you would need to be in the top couple of percent in your class, have a 2300 plus and one very strong EC to begin to be competitive at the ivies.

I’m afraid I agree with Waverly: you may need to recalibrate. Your reaches are probably going to be out of reach if you’re in the second decile of your class, one of your teacher recommendations is likely to be less than stellar, and your SAT is around 2100. Since you’re not a Texan, I don’t think you can consider UT Austin anything like a safety, either; three quarters of UT’s freshman class were in the top decile of their high school class.

It’s OK to have as many reaches as you can afford. If you want to take a chance on Princeton, MIT, et al., go ahead and good luck. What I’d worry about more, if you were my kid, is that your safeties might not be all that safe. They’re public universities, and you’re not a resident of Texas or Illinois.

@Sikorsky- I’ll be able to get my SAT up to the low-mid 2200s by the time I apply, since I gave the test after giving the first diagnostic at The Princeton Review(I got a 2050, and one of my friends told me that TPR makes the tests tougher than the real one, so that those who enroll see huge gains), so that’s how I approximated my score.
As for being in the top decile, I think I’ll be able to manage. From what it seems to me, the admissions process is a bit easier for US Citizens residing in a foreign country; my brother was able to get into UIllinois and UT Austin with a 1950, and 720, 730 in his SAT IIs. His major was the same, too.
@Waverly-Could you tell me what depth/range I could add to them?

Yes, it’s a bit easier for US citizens. So that means Princeton takes 6% rather than 2% of internationals.

With a 2200 and top 10%, as long as you’re full pay, CMU and Berkeley become good shots. I can’t even imagine what MIT and Caltech want fom Indian candidates today, and they are swarmed by them, so you will need some truly exceptional national level awards.

Cornell also get loads of Indian applicants because they have some endowed funding for them (wouldn’t count for you as a US citizen) and you’ll be compared to that pool so a 2200 just top 10% will not be very competitive. Princeton? Probably not with no stand out EC.

If you really want to come to school in the US, add some less competitive schools. If you need aid, far less competitive.

Umm, let me guess.
You’re from MIS, right? :stuck_out_tongue: XII-C?
