Chance My Son, Please

Son (white male) is a junior in very good public h.s. in MA. He has a 4.7 weighted GPA (7.0 basis) which, I hear, translates to about a 3.13 on a 4.0 scale. 3/4 of his classes have been advanced (honors) and will take 3 APs next year (Stats, Latin, Bio). School does not rank.

SATs: 700M, 620CR, 520W (taking again in June)

ECs: President of Latin Club; Varsity Golf and Crew; Amnesty Intl club; American Field Service; Student Council; Peer Mediation; National Latin Exam awards. Has volunteered with American Cancer Society. Will work at law firm this summer.

Will not be applying for financial aid.

Can you tell me his chances at the following schools:

UMass-Amherst
UConn
Bentley
Boston U.
Villanova
George Washington
American
Lehigh
Bucknell
Penn State (UP)
Maryland (CP)
Loyola Maryland
Fordham

Thank you so much!

myoneandonly, I don't know about the GPA. You say a weighted 4.7/7.0? I believe that is much lower than a 3.13. I get a 2.69. Better recheck that. His SATs are pretty good for a lot of schools, most schools don't look at Writing at all, so if he can bring up his scores next time, he should be solid. You have a good mix of reach and matches here. You might want to pick a safety school as well as adcoms can be persnickety. Does he have lengthy community service wih the ACS? Higher tiers like to see an increasing relationship with the volunteer hours. Not spread out, but show a definite long term passion. Has he thought about taking the ACT? I notice he won't be taking AP English and the Math/science kids generally do much better on the ACT. Sorry this is so long!
