My son is in his first year at JTCC and wants to xfer to UR Fall 2018 and pursue accounting. After this semester he will have MTH 163, ACCT211, ENG111, BUS100, PreCalc163, ApplCalcMTH270, and Computer apps classes complete…with a GPA of 3.84. He is signed up for ACCT212, MacroECON201, ENG112, CHEM101, and introPsychPSY200. He had a 1210 on SAT’s…Does that sound like a possible UR transfer profile if he keeps the GPA over a 3.8 through the year?? I am a UR grad and his grandpa was too…
I think he has a very strong chance of getting in as a transfer with that GPA.
As someone who transferred in from a CC and also knows a lot of transfer students here at UR, I think your son has a great shot. Just as a reminder (not sure if you know), but as a transfer student you apply to the business school during your first semester and get accepted your second if you’ve met certain requirements involving classes and GPA!
@rvalover7 Man I really appreciate all your encouragement in this process. I just was looking back over the 2017 Fall transfer thread to get an idea of when to expect a letter from transfer admissions and saw that you were just in the same situation last year as we are! So my question to the expert…should we send in my son’s midterm report ( shows a continuing 3.8 GPA in business oriented college work)? When we talked to one of the advisors at admissions during a tour last week they said they would let us know if they needed it …He was pretty much a B student in high school but has turned into a totally different student in college. I just don’t want them to only have grades from 1 semester of CC work to go on. (He will have ACCT 211 and 212 and ECON 201 under his belt by the end of this semester…hope that gets him in!)
@HooDad1 Hey, thanks! No problem, I am happy to give my insight. I sent in my midterm report because it was a 4.0, which I think helped me get in. I definitely wanted them to see my current work too since it was an upward trend. I used the one on the Common App and some of my professors were nice enough to write comments. If anything, it definitely doesn’t hurt at all. Also, my transfer class had tons of Reynolds, Richard Bland, and Tyler transfers. I think they appreciate students in the RVA!
