touhou,

it’s great to chance you. Here is some facts, some pints, and finally my opinion. Don’t invest too much in it cause this is all a crap shot.

1) Your test scores are very low, especially for being white. that is going to hurt your chances significantly
2) it’s hard to determine chance w/out rank even if you give GPA
2) great ECs. However, your level of accomplishment is pretty standard or even low for some schools (penn, stanford, cornell)
4) you can’t self-evaluate essays (especially as top-tier). I’ve heard from an admissions officer at Cal tech that all teacher recs except 1% are the same bland stuff, yet every kid thinks theirs are in that 1%. Same goes for essays. However, these don’t matter near as much as most other factors for exactly this reason. They’re supposed to help distinguish subjectively, but 95% of the time, they don’t.

ok, hear is my opinion

Vanderbilt (EDII)-target
Boston University (supp essay is just good)-high safety
Cornell (supp essay is amazing)-reach
Centre (EA)-dunno enough
Stanford-VERY high reach
Penn- reach
Chicago (supp essay is amazing)- low reach (and if your essays are as good as you think, perhaps low target)
Boston College-dunno enough
Case Western Reserve- high safety

really, those scores are going to hurt you badly. Sorry, but that just the fact. You may make up for it with awesome rank, but your SAT Is are low by many of these school’s standards. Also, your subject tests are both in math. That will hurt you. NOW, you have a lot of strengths. Heavy extra curricular involvement, even if that’s standard material for the highest ones. But you also show a LOT of initiative (creating that recycling program, volunteering, running so much, and teaching tennis)

last words: good list of colleges, you definitely picked a nice balanced list of safeties, targets, and reaches. I’m hoping you legitimately want to go to Vandy though, and aren’t doing ED II for the admissions bonus, because that alone gives you a very good chance of getting in (I think you prob will), and you may end up regretting that, esp. if you need aid. But if that is your true first choice, then that is a wise decision.

In any case, G’luck come April. and chance me back!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1055432-cmon-cmon-cmon-cmon-cmon-cmon-cmon-cmon-please-please-please-chance-me.html</a></p>

oh, and don’t judge me harshly for my bad spelling and grammar. I’m tired and cutting weight (for wrestling)

Test scores are becoming less and less important, honestly. No one can ever really predict Stanford or Cornell, but I’d say you’re in at Vandy, which solves your problems.

You aren’t from Louisville, by any chance?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1070298-chance-thread-nervous-senior-i-will-chance-you-back-advise-any-way-i-can.html#post1066248417</a></p>

Ok, no lectures, but it’s myriad schools, not myriad of schools.

The test scores are counting less is certainly curious, as a look at common data sets tells me just the opposite for top schools.

My rank is 9/293, top 3%, and thanks!

2college, it’s myriad of schools. No need for corrections. Sorry for any confusion.

a 2000 is very low? That’s well above average.

I’m pretty sure both “myriad schools” and “myriad of schools” are acceptable, as the word can be used as both a noun and an adjective.

Anyway, I don’t believe in chances because we are not adcoms so we don’t have much authority. I can say, however, that your test scores are a bit low, but they are within the range, and since test scores are being emphasized less and less these days you are probably okay.

Your SATs will drag you down a lot for Cornell and Stanford, though hopefully emphasizing your interest in sustainability will help you out a little - it’s pretty hot button and schools like people who are dedicated. Your extra currics seem really good and well rounded - any chance of being recruited at the college level for sports? That could help you out a bit.

Did you mean UPenn or Penn State - I think you’ll mostly be out of luck on the former but in luck on the latter. Sorry I don’t know enough about the other schools to judge.

thanks! char

Vanderbilt (EDII)- target
Boston University (supp essay is just good)- you’re in for sure.
Cornell (supp essay is amazing)- a reach
Centre (EA)- don’t know the school… O_o
Stanford- reach
Penn- high reach
Chicago (supp essay is amazing)-target
Boston College- you’re most likely in.
Case Western Reserve- def in.

Good luck!
chance me please!
