Worries: CR SAT score, no AP Calculus, could have taken two more honors freshman and one more as a sophomore than I did

Probably a match.

Seems like a low reach.

@shtang can you elaborate and maybe say why you think so? Maybe a % chance of admission?

The admission rate at NU is in the low teens or lower. Your SAT is around or below admission average. It would be a reach.

@billcsho so if someone’s sat is not above the 50 percentile then they are automatically a reach? My grades and ECs are very good

For NU, it is a reach for most students anyway due to the low admission rate, even for kids at the 75th percentile.

@billcsho do you maybe have a % chance of admissions guess for me?

Probably right around the admission rate or perhaps a little bit above.

@billcsho what weaknesses do you see in my app? NU really looks at everything, and the one section of the SAT is the only weakness that I truly think I have… Just curious for your thoughts.

No obvious weakness other than SAT score (particularly your CR score) while your EC is good. Most applicants would have great scores and strong EC though.

Just get that reading score up and your good. Northwestern cares about CR+M/1600 so If you can get that reading score >700 you will have a very good shot at getting in. Otherwise, honestly your chances are lower overall. GPA is excellent though, and the fact that your applying ED will help tremendously. I think you have a good shot where you stand. Good luck!

@SternBusiness what % do you think I have right now?

Really hard to say. Each year admissions changes slightly and sometimes highschools do better at certain colleges at certain years. A good amount of luck is involved honestly. I think applying ED and with the GPA that you have, your have a good shot though.

you have an extremely high chance of getting in your stats are incredible especially with that harvard journalism

You’re a really strong applicant. I agree that your CR score is your weakness, but especially ED that’ll be easy to overlook with all the other strengths. I’ll say… 75% ED, 20% RD

We have similar test scores. I got a 31… http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/1809306-chance-me-for-early-decision.html#latest
