recs will be very good as well

parents emigrated here in 92 with my 3 sisters in order to give us a better chance at a good education..

any chance?

I would say you definitely have a good shot. Where are your parents from? Are you the first generation to go off to college? That's something that could be even more of a boost.

my mom came here for college in 1988 in florida. She then went back to kenya and had me and my sisters. we came here in 92.
my father went to college in kenya and london

is that considered a boost?

no boost (10char)

try to break 2000 on the SAT, and i think you have a great chance.

can anyone suggest some safeties??

spaceranger, what do you mean by 'no boost'?

the OP is black, which is in and of itself a boost. The fact that she is originally from Kenya is perhaps not, since she came at such an early age, but if she can work that into an essay, it might turn out nicely.

^^i think adressed to me. i meant "no boost" as in no boost for first-gen college student because his parent went to school in london and kenya

lol yes, that was addressed to you :D i see what you're saying.
