Chance! NYU!

So I have a 3.7 UW GPA and a 4.2 W GPA. Many things made me "fall off the wagon" this year, but I'm not even going to get into that.
Anyways, would an amazing SAT, as in 2200+ and 750+ SATIIs make up for my somewhat low GPA if I'm planning on applying to Stern School of Business?
I have above average ECs, lots of community service, some leadership positions, work experience, etc.
And I know I'll have at least one amazing teacher rec.
Opinions? Have I completely screwed myself over?

With 2200+ and 750+ SAT/SAT IIs, glowing essays, and great recs, I’d say you have a great chance. Even without those you have a solid chance

That sounds like my application sans above average ECs and I got into Stern. You have not completely screwed yourself over.

Thanks guys! Junior year is ending in about seven weeks for my school, and I’ve pretty much been freaking out about the whole college application process.
I have a few more questions if you wouldn’t mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

 1. Does being the first in my family (including two older brothers) to go to college help? I’m a white female from CA, making me not as appealing on the whole AA front. :frowning:
 2. If you write about a death or something along those lines in your application, does it look like you’re just searching for sympathy?

Also, any other schools that are good matches given my stats with good business programs?

I got into CAS with a worse GPA (3.4) and SATs (2190), plus all the good stuff you mentioned. I know Stern has different admissions criteria, but I still say that you have an awesome shot.

I tend to think that being first in the family does help a fair amount. Also, I think that writing about death is fine but just make sure it ultimately is focused on you. As sad as it was for you when your wonderful friend/relative died, the catch phrase is the college is not admitting them, they are admitting you and want to know about you. I think you have a good chance for NYU though!

Being first in the family is a help.

Your stats are good. Try to finish this year with the best grades you can. Junior year grades are very important.

Stern can be unpredictable. Do you have any ECs that are business-related at all?

Are your parents willing to pay the $55k+ to go to NYU? If so, then you’ll be fine financially. If they can’t, then it probably won’t be affordable since NYU is notorious for giving horrible financial aid.

If finances are an issue, be sure to apply to other schools that you like and be sure to apply to some financial safety schools.

Have you taken the SAT? Is that a predicted score?
Also take the ACT…some do better on that.
