Chance of Acceptance for a Canadian Student

Hello everybody,

As you can see from this title, I am Canadian high school student who is hoping to attend Stanford after I graduate.

Basic Information:

Sex: Male
Race: White

Grade 9 GPA: 90%
Grade 10 GPA: 91%
Grade 11 GPA: 94% (Highest average in the grade was a 96% however my school does not officially rank us)

AP:
Physics 1: Waiting on result, code 97 (Most likely a 4 or 5)
Computer Science: 5
English Language and Composition: 4

I will be writing 5 more AP tests next year but that will of course be after my application and decision :frowning:

ACT: 33 (re-writing for a 34 or 35 in the fall)

SAT Subject Tests:

I have not yet written the subject tests but I plan to write Math II, Physics, and either Chemistry or American History.

Extracurricular Activities:

Acting and Music: As a child I have been a passionate actor in mainly musical theater. I typically perform in around 3 musical productions per year including the occasional performance in some of the larger theaters in Toronto. I play the piano and trumpet and I also compete in vocals having won many scholarships in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). I hope to continue acting on the side during my university education.

Ski Racing: Most likely not competitive enough to play a major factor in my application but I was ranked very, very high in Alpine Ski Racing last year.

Other Sports: Very active in other sports on a less competitive level such as tennis, golf, swimming, water skiing, squash, and a few other lesser ones. At my school I am roughly 3 sports teams a year since grade 9.

Service: Utilizing programs at my school I have volunteered to help special needs programs and also at a home for children and parents who had been abused or neglected.

Clubs:
Computer Science (4 years)
Model UN (3 years)
Swimming (2 years) - This was to get Bronze Cross, Med, and NLS

Reference Letters:

Computer Science Teacher 10/10: Taught me for 3 years and we have really bonded and communicate frequently about coding outside of school.

American History Teacher 9/10: Taught me only for one year but we get along great and had almost the highest mark in his course. According to my guidance teacher he is the best teacher for recommendations in the school, if he likes you.

I am very passionate about Computer Science, in addition to acting, and code both at school and as a hobby outside of school. Thank you for taking your time to read this and I appreciate any feedback or opinions,

You have a good application but since you’re applying as an international, you’ll have a much fiercer competition pool for much less spots than an American would, especially since many internationals are also very passionate about CS which is what I assume you’ll be applying under. I hesitate to give a percentage chance but just know that despite having a great application, you still have an extremely low chance of getting in so if you do end up applying it’s important to keep your expectations low.

Regarding ski racing, this is a club sport rather than varsity sport at Stanford so it’s not a sport that Stanford recruits for. So I think you’re right that it likely won’t have a major impact on the outcome, but it is an interesting extracurricular activity. There are some US universities with varsity ski teams but obviously they tend to be in places with snow.
