Chance of acceptance

This is my dream school, I am from MD and ever since I was a kid going to the games I have always wanted to be a Terp. But my grades are not up to par. My weighted GPA is roughly a 3.5 and unweighted roughly 3.2. my current SAT scores are pretty low too, they are roughly a 1600 on a 2400 scale. However I am taking them again on October 6th and I am taking the ACTs at the end of September. I am also enrolled in a 8 week prep course. I plan on applying for Early Action as well. I am involved in several extracurricular activities such as Marching Band for 4 years, Key club for 1 year, Unified sports tem (sports for the disabled students) for 1 year, Youth mentor at my church for 5 years. Any advice at all would be much appreciated. Anything that I could still do starting my senior year to make me more marketable would be amazing. Thanks!

It definitely helps that you’re in MD. I trust that you’ll be able to improve upon your scores. Are you taking a strong courseload?

The application for UMD is actually open now, so I would start on the essays and spend time making them as representative of you as possible.

I’m curious about the honors program myself, but don’t know if you’re qualified or not. I mainly wanted to post because I noticed you said you’re taking the SAT on October 6th this year. October 6th is a Sunday and I am absolutely certain that the SAT is on Saturday, October 5th this year. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t miss you’re SAT date–that would be horrendous.

Futureteacher, I don’t see how you get in to College Park, unless your SAT scores improves greatly. Bringing your grades up first semester would help, too. I’m rooting for you, though!!
