From what others have told me, others being kids that are going to Penn State now, those that apply with borderline stats but apply as undecided often have pretty good chances of getting in. I’m not sure if that’s true, but its what they told me.

Thanks that helps
Any idea of when I might find out a decision?

well, the admissions women at Penn State said that with rolling admissions, you should expect to hear within 2 months of when everything is fully submitted. Typically, although not always, Penn State tends to admit those that have the highest stats first and toss out those with the lowest stats first. Then they weed through everyone else. Since your stats, and mine, are just about average, I would say expect a slightly delayed response from them, although I’d say it should probably come no later than the end of January, simply considering when you applied

Thank you very much, Im so anxious to know, this is my top school and I wont find out from the other schools I applied to, until about february.

I know your not working for PSU, but how bad do you think my SAT is gonna ruin my chances?
I know that GPA is 2/3 the decision but I still think my SAT is just way too low

Your GPA, transcript, and EC’s are fantastic… although the SAT/ACT is a killer; it brings you down big… idk if Penn State takes a holistic approach, which in your case then, shouldn’t be a problem

If they count standardized test scores significantly and mainly look at #'s, you NEED to take it again if you want to go there

Hope that helps!! Please chance me!!

amr2014,
you have great credentials. Your ACT score is amazing, you have a solid GPA as well which is going to help you a lot for the schools you applied to, I also applied to albany and stony brook, however not the honors
You have decent shots at the honors, but Your gpa may be a little low for Stony Brooks Honors, however Im not sure how competitive these honors are
The fact that you have so many EC’s gives you an evern greater shot, I wouldnt worry to much you did great with ur transcript

Another question. Did you list your EC’s and do the personal statement on the application. As I’m sure you have read, GPA and the classes you took are Penn States best indication of what kind of student you are( as you said it amounts to 66% of their decision) But the other 33% is not necessarily just SAT’s, if you listed it, its also your personal statement and your EC’s. The SAT is a bit low, but I’ve also heard of kids making into to University Park with low 1000’s. In general you seem pretty well rounded and I’d give you a pretty descent shot to get in.

That might give you some kind of indication

Good luck to you, and chance back?

Thanks for your opinion/help
I did indeed fill out the EC’s/activites list and the personal statement so that should help a little bit. I did hear someone got into UP last year with a 980 SAT, so I must have a decent shot if this is really true but who knows.

As for chancing you, You have a great shot
your GPA is outstanding, right above their average
SAT and ACT are right within the range, you shouldnt have to much to worry about
Class percentile/rank are good too, anything within the top quarter is said to be great, so your well within that too
As for the EC’s id say we both have similar EC’s, which I think are decent
In general I wouldnt worry, you definitely have a great shot at UP in my opinion

I think you both have an alright shot, I mean obviously your SAT scores are your low points but you both have way more ECs than I did and about the same GPA and I got in with a 1230/1600 SAT.
