From what I've heard from people who took the classes, I'm confident I can get A's in AP Gov, AP Environmental, and AP Macro fairly easily, so I will thus be able to quickly beef up my GPA at the beginning of the year.

Also, I've been in regular communication with the admissions people to get name recognition going.

Where do I stand? What are my chances?

Also, not really a big thing, but I also occasionally write opinion pieces for my school newspaper.

Pretty good stats/ECs. You are on the border of waitlist/admit. Probably a waitlist unless you demonstrate the why UNC? component.

Regarding your senior year course load; FWIW AP Environmental science is not one of the more highly regarded classes and carries little weight when comparing resumes between two or more “closely matched” applicants. It’s just not a class I’d add if trying to show academic rigor on an application.

i was similar to you… had very similar course load and ecs (journalism, girls state) and got in early action oos! I think cause you’re a guy it will help too. But one piece of advice is go above and beyond and let UNC know that they are your #1 school if that is the case. Get to know you’re rep that visits your school and make it clear on your application that UNC is high on your list. Also when you visit talk to a professor of your major and they could put in a good word at admissions (thats what I did) GOOD LUCK and enjoy senior year!

You’ll get it. Just apply early action. It’s nonbinding so there is no loss. I would recommend you do that with most schools if you have the option. Your chances will sky rocket.
