I consider myself a very good writer, and both my parents are professional writers who will be able edit my essays, so I'm confident they will be high end upon submission.

I feel as though I'm being a bit caustic here, but honors does not have an apostrophe. If you're still adding apostrophes to words that don't need it, maybe you're not that great of a writer [grammatically].

Nice ACT score; SAT is low for Dartmouth. The only middle 50% you fit into is math. Eagle Scout rank will help, since <2% of Boy Scouts earn that distinction.

I would say that Dartmouth is a reach for you, but then again, who am I to judge? I'm a prospective student as well. Given your stats/lack of EC's you will be behind the 8-ball. Good luck, though!

Try to submit your ACT, not your SAT. Have you gotten 5s on the AP exams you've taken so far?

Have you been in All-State band, or any regional youth symphony-like group?

Do you think you will have really good recs, including the peer rec?

I have to second Coteee's comment on the apostrophes. It's a pet peeve of mine. You are certainly not the only person who does it, but an apostrophe does not, as some wit said, mean "Look out! Here comes an s!"

Mind the gap, your SAT's are a bit weak, your rank is acceptable, ACT is pretty good. EC's appear a bit weak, I see not too much national involvement. Overall, if you present yourself really well, you have a shot. Otherwise, work your ass off this year.

Cotee, grammar has little to do with how well you convey your thoughts. Apostrophes have absolutely no bearing on how well you write. That was an obnoxiously judgmental comment.

Consolation, you can't submit only your ACT. And peer recs aren't that important.

yo dude I'm applying ed myself and I go to seaholm in birmingham and I'm an eagle scout as well. where are you from man?

snearnia, isn't this the year that the College Board lets kids pick which SATs to send? I haven't looked it up, but hypothetically that means the OP could send the ACT and just the SATIIs.

snearnia, misuse of apostrophes may be epidemic in our society, but that does not excuse it.

And I would argue that recs DO mean a lot to a borderline candidate, especially at a school that prides itself on holistic admissions.

are you white, black, hispanic, asian, native american, or other?

Holy wow thats a coincidence wylancaster, i go to groves. I live like half a mile exactly from seaholm, at 14 mile and evergreen.

and im white..

That's beginning in March 2009.

sneamia, I'm just telling it like it is. Don't downplay the importance of grammar/syntax in writing; they're slightly more substantial errors than typos. Plus, one's command of the English language pretty much shows how well they relay their ideas to others.

The SAT score thing is cool and all, but I think that it may favor the more affluent students who can take the test seven times...
