Chance of Admission to Furman University

Hi everyone, my name's Ken, I'm new to this board. I'm an early high school graduate, having skipped my junior year. Because I am fifteen, I decided to stick close to home and apply to only in-state (South Carolina) colleges. Right now, my first choice is Furman University, where I hope to major in music education. What are my chances of admission? Since I skipped junior year, regretfully I have not been named Junior Marshal, National Merit Scholar, etc. (though I would have qualified.) How does this affect my chances? Here are my extracurricular activities/honors.

SAT I - 760 verbal, 780 math
AP's - English Lit/Comp and Music Theory (I'm taking them this year, hopefully I'll make 5's on them)
GPA - last semester weighted was 4.9, unweighted 3.9-something
Class standing - top 5%

-Presidential Scholar Candidate
-Winthrop University Trustees' Scholar
-Violin (studied 5 years), made All-State Orchestra, National Music Honor Society, the South Carolina Youth Philharmonic, community symphonies, and was televised on ETV with the SC Philharmonic
-Electric bass (studied 1 year), involved in the jazz band and gospel choir
-Math Team, I am a volunteer tutor in math at my school
-Model UN
-SAT Team
-Karate (studied 5 years), I was a youth tutor until recently until I had a back injury and had to quit, and won the South Carolina Martial Arts Open gold medal in my age division earlier on

I've already been accepted to all of the other colleges I applied to: USC, College of Charleston, Winthrop University. But, my first choice doesn't send out admissions decisions until the middle of March! Any input on my chances of getting in?

Ken, I would think you have a very good chance of being admitted, unless for some unforeseen reason, they are concerned about your age. I doubt that, if you were 13-14, yes they might well have a problem, but I would think a 15 year old would be OK. When is your birthday, did you skip another year, because my daughter skipped a year early on, she will be 17 starting college, and that is pretty common?

I turn 16 next month, but I skipped the first grade as well. Unlike the other colleges I've applied to, Furman has an Early Admission option, which requires all early graduates to undergo a different "separate review by a staff of counselors"; I recently had a pretty decent interview with my counselor there. Thanks for the feedback.

I am a graduate of Furman University and have maintained long-term ties to other graduates and faculty. I would be happy to hear from you. The faculty at Furman is excellent, and you will find the intimate classrooms to be both personal and challenging. I have sent you an email, if you have specific questions about Furman.

You are extremely good!!

If you don't get into Furman try Harvard or Yale.

Seriously, Furman would be crazy to not let you in.

"SAT Team"

lol

Yeah, SAT team was sort of a crapshoot for me, nobody liked it and on testing day only half the team showed up so we actually went to random classes and asked people if they'd like to miss 3 hours of school... :-)

Thanks for the feedback.
