Top 5% from a competitive H.S in the Houston area with SAT of 1400, National Hispanic Scholar,
will graduate with about 25 total college dual credit/AP hrs, awards in music, and leadership roles with average service hours— chance of getting into Rice??
If admitted to Rice, what is the probability of getting Merit Scholarships ? Based on Rice’s income bracket - not a candidate for financial need award.
Thanks for comments.
For admission, you stats aren’t amazing but you are a URM scholar and from a competitive school so there is certainly hope. I say show love, visit, write, send updates.
It’s hard to say who’ll get merit scholarship but every applicant gets considered. As far as financial aid, they are one of the most generous school and just improved it with their new policy. You may be pleasantly surprised with aid or merit.
Rice will be very familiar with your high school in the Houston area. Some say it is harder to get in as a Houstonian because of the large number of applicants from the Houston area and possibly from the same high schools. If your school has Naviance, Naviance is a very good predictor of your admission chances. Being a NHS is a plus as Rice is trying to increase its diversity. Every student is considered for a merit scholarship, but few are given out. Some scholarships reserved for underrepresented minorities, so that may work in your favor. If you are in Houston, definitely visit the campus and sign up for an interview.
