Chance of Admission

Hi there,
I just wanted to know what my chances are of getting into UCI after getting rejected from UC Davis today. UCI is probably my top choice and I’m a little worried after UC Davis.

Here are my stats:

Alternate Major: Business Admin

UC GPA: 4.1
UW GPA: 3.76
In-state (California Distinguished Public School)
School does not rank

34 ACT
English - 34
Mathematics - 30
Reading - 34
Science - 36
Writing - 8

AP Tests - Biology (4), Calc AB (4), European History (4), Chem (3), Statistics (4), US History (5)

Essays: Around 7/10; solid but nothing overly special or unique

Extracurriculars:

  • 4 Years in school Band Program
  • 4 Years of school Marching Band
  • 4 Years on robotics team
  • Volunteer at local food bank
  • Leadership role/ambassador for local elementary schools (1 out of 12 seniors)
  • 2 Years of Korean Culture Club
  • 2 Years of Web Development Club (Founder)
  • 1 year of Track and Field

Other colleges applied to (all for computer science):
SDSU (Accepted Honors)
Cal Poly SLO (pending)
University of Washington (Accepted Pre Science)
UCSD (pending)
UCI (pending)
UCB (pending)
UCLA (pending)
UCD (rejected)
UCSB (pending)

Extra Info: Older sister goes to UCI as well. Don’t know if that has any impact

Anyone feedback would be great!

Thank you!

Having a family member attending or did attend UCI has no impact on your decision. You have to remember that CS is probably one of the most popular and competitive majors at all the UC’s. Your GPA and test scores are definitely within range so it will probably come down to your essays, EC’s and if UCI feels you are a fit for the campus.

Best of luck.

2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCI: 38%

25th - 75th percentiles for ACT
UCI: 26-33

Average UC GPA for 2018 admits: 4.13

Competitive majors will require stats at or above the averages.
