What's your GPA? What are your ECs/Awards? (expand on the "Normal")

As an Asian student, especially coming from Japan, it's extremely difficult to be accepted, simply because there are so many highly qualified applicants. Also, UCB and UCLA are state universities, so they give priority to in-state students. It's hard for out-of-state American students to get in, never mind internationals. That said, your stats look very good.

if you need financial aid, you are going to have a haaaaaaaaard time getting accepted to stanford. if you need fin.aid, you won't be able to get any money from ucb and ucla.

and as you are an intel, i definetly definetly suggest some safteys. you may think that WUSTL, CMU, Chicago are match/safteys but you need a definite saftey. And if you need fin.aid, you definetly definetly definetly need safteys. Trust me. Intels have such a big disadvantage. Intels + fin aid = bbbbbaaaaad combination.. especially if you are 'average'.

Sorry if this comes out as harsh but right now, you don't have a real definite chance at any of the schools above..(only because you're an intel)

LF61, are you a student of an United World College?
That would make things much easier for you.
What do you mean by "normal" ECs and Awards? In my opinion, your ECs, essays and reccomendations are going to make all the difference. You have good scores so work on the rest of your application.
Honestly, I think that pronouncing rejection by Stanford and Yale is not very intelligent at this point. There are lots of factors that can work for you and I think these schools are worth a shot while keeping in mind the fact that you are playing the lottery.
