Chance of being accepted...

Hello. This year, I'm a senior in high school and I've applied to two universities, George Mason and VCU. I really want to attend GMU. My high school years have been quite a bumpy road. As of right now, my GPA is 3.76 and I'm in the twentieth percentile of my class.

In ninth grade, I lived with my friend and her family. I didn't work to my best potential, many B's. Although through the second semester, I received A's in my classes of Advanced English and history.

Then, tenth grade was non-existent for me. I moved to London, then Kenya for six months each. During that time, I didn't attend school because the systems were completely different for me. A long and complicated story really.

Got back last year, took my first ever summer school course of English to begin catching up in school. In the fall, I combined tenth and eleventh grade courses which I had missed previously. Received A's and one B in psychics for the year.

A math course of summer school this year gave me just enough credits to become a senior as I should be! Somehow, someway, I'm going to graduate on time. I've been apart of advanced courses throughout. Continued with IB English this year and AP classes, I have A's in those courses.

Doing well, only thing bothering me is my SAT score. First time taking it this month, just received scores today. Not good at all (1440 total *510-CR *440-Math *490-Writing)
GMU doesn't include writing, so 950. It's abysmal! Took the ACT last week, I know I did a lot better on that test. May be my saving grace in the test aspect of acceptance.

Guidance counselor & great teachers know my capabilities as a student and person. This test just seems to portray me so badly, but I know that GMU looks at the overall person.

Your thoughts on my chance of being accepted?

I have a friend that was accepted into GMU with a lower GPA than you have. However, the only thing that is negative on your application would be your SAT scores. I think my friends received around 1200 the first time. Did not break 500 on any. But after 5 attempts at the SAT she scored around the mid 500s to 600s on the math and reading. Still didn’t break 500 on the writing though. CR is fine, but math has to break the 550s.

As long as your transcript looks good, (3.76/4.0 is pretty good), great letters of recommendation, and maybe an interview? You have a good chance.

Hey, Im a high school senior, i come from cairo, egypt…I was wondering if anyone could chance me

I was wondering if my relatively low GPA ( since my school does not weigh IB courses ) would hurt my chances as I have a 2.8 sophmore year and a 3.0 (but IB) Junior year. I struggled with my new school at first but Ive really come around in the last few months and I’m doing great in my senior year…anyone chance me for UVA, Berkeley, Babson, Boston College, and NYU?

Thank you. I do know that GMU looks at the overall person. My poor SAT score isn’t the only factor, so hopefully the ACT will help in admission. I work hard, so hopefully that will overshadow a terrible score.
