Chance of Brown University - ED!?

I've applied ED to Brown..I go to a small private high school (82 kids in my class) in the Northeast that's very rigorous and competitive. We usually send about 3 kids to Brown each year, but I know for a fact that I'm the only one applying ED out of my class! Here are my qualifications:

GPAs and Grades (all unweighted)

Freshman Year GPA: 2.8 (I came from a public middle school that did not prepare me at all, and when I took all honors at my high school I was slammed.)

Sophomore Year GPA: 3.2

Junior Year GPA: 3.4

Senior Fall Grades:
Nature Writing: B+
AP Statistics: B
Physics: A-
Spanish: A
AP Biology: B+
Independent Study/Science Research Project: A-

Cumulative GPA: 3.13
-rough, I know. Freshman year seriously screwed me up. I'm hoping that they see the upward trend and realize that I'm definitely qualified and that I will be able to succeed at Brown.

Scores
ACT composite: 32
English: 32
Reading: 34
Math: 35
Science: 32
Writing: 10/12

AP Language & Composition: 4
(my other AP scores weren't good)

Honor Roll (88% average or above; high honor roll is 92% average or above)
10th grade first semester
10th grade second semester
11th grade first semester
11th grade second semester

RECS
I know my recs are really strong...I have three of them
1 Math teacher
1 International Relations teacher
1 English teacher

Essay
-My college counselor said it was one of the best ones hed ever read, and that it was his favorite one.

Outside factors
-12 people in my family graduated fron Brown, including my grandfather who has never missed a reunion and donates every year to the school and several foundations within the school

What are my chances?? I know that my GPA is low but my grades are great right now and I'm really involved in my school as well as my outside community. I've heard that Brown does take legacies into account, but will my connection be enough? I'm in love with the school, and I can't imagine another school that I could be happier at. Will I get in ED?

Without a doubt you have a good chance being accepted to brown especially cause of legacy. It’s good your GPA is an upward trend.beside that everything in your app looks great, no real weaknesses. It’s all gonna come down to your essay so if it really is that awesome, you should be in with a shout. You never know with brown though. Good luck!

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1418125-chance-me-duke-other-top-schools.html

I hope that the legacy pull will help you get in. I think that without the legacy it would be the very rare student who would get in with half A’s and half B’s (your best set of grades–sr year-fall) and a 32 ACT, which is very good but not that of the typical Brown admit. However, scores and grades are not everything; perhaps a strong essay and EC’s will do the trick–and the legacy may be huge! We visited Brown in June and they came right out and said that being a legacy does help in the admissions process. Good luck!

High match if you can write a strong essay, coupled with strong ECs.

You’ll find out in a few weeks. Did they recruit you for sailing?
Primary legacy is parents. I am sure you understand the nature of the competition.

Not going to lie, your GPA will be a huge eyesore on your application.
12 legacies though…wow.
I’d say you have somewhat of a shot, but you have to remember that there are 30,000 other kids applying to Brown for less than 3,000 spots, and about 90% of them are more qualified than you as far as grades go. Legacy has to really pull through.

@looking forward - no i did not get recruited…since it’s an ivy league, they only recruit the sailors who have amazing resumes (i.e. international experience, word class sailors). My friend actually got recruited from Brown. If I’m accepted, I’m hoping to make the team though!

I just really hope this all works out because my school has prepared me so well, although my grades are not perfect, I’ve grown so much and I’m definitely qualified. It’s just a matter of whether or not my application will be competitive enough to get me in.
