I think you’ve got a very good chance, but I would strongly suggest that you give great care to your essay. You sound like a wonderful candidate who would be an asset to any campus. Good luck!!

I would agree with zoosermom that your chances overall are very good for admission although there are certain majors at UD (i.e. chemical engineering, nursing, certain art majors, and a few others) that are extremely competitive for admission for OOS students; so if you are interested in any of these majors you will be competing with a number of OOS students with at least similar, if not better, stats (but you are certainly still competitive even for these majors). As recommended write as good an essay as possible. Also in addition to the 2 AP classes you plan on taking Sr. year make sure you take 5 major courses in both semesters of your Sr. yr. This will also increase your chances. UD takes a dim view of students who decide to “coast” their Sr. year and just rely primarily on their grades from the first 3 years of HS. Also apply as early as possible. Unfortunatly UD does not offer rolling admissions so you will not find out about your admission decision until next March (so obviously apply to some other good schools as backup colleges). Best of luck to you. The odds are good that this time next year you will be settling down in a Dorm at UD getting ready for your first UD football game.

reidpow, you got great advice from above. Here is a little more. Not only do I think you will get in, you are actually within striking distance of getting into the honors program. It really is worth striving for. First of all, do take both sats and acts again and prep for them strategically. It appears that UD converts everything to Sat equivalent scores. In other words they take your act sub-scores convert them to sat scores and then add the three equivalized sat sections up for a superstore. I only realized this by looking at my daughter’s transcript. This had the effect of adding 90 points to her best combination of actual sat
scores. Sorry if that is confusing, but the net of what I am saying is figure out which test you score best on in each of the subject areas, and then prep accordingly and plan on turning in everything. If anyone else has any perspective or experience with this, please chime in or set me straight if I have it wrong. Also, it may or may not matter to you, but these scores not only determine admission, they determine merit aid, which at UD, can be significant.
