Chance of Getting In

What are my chances of getting in??

GPA 3.5
SAT 1720
About 7-8 honors classes since 9th grade
2 years of Spanish 1 of Latin

Chorus for 2 years (Award), Marching band, Indoor Percussion, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Stage Crew. Played guitar for 10 years.

I've had a job since the end of 8th grade.
And my grade trend is increasing with Straight A's senior year

And on my application I showed interest in doing the Pitt Band

Also I was already admitted to Michigan State, and Penn State Erie

My daughter had a 3.6 gpa and a 1200/1840 SAT and was deferred. She applied undecided, has several AP courses and is doing dual enrollment at a local college. She is pretty involved at school - varsity sports, student council officer, etc.

She applied undecided back in August. They said they will reevaluate her again, once she sends in semester grades. She did really well this semester, so we have our fingers crossed! Best of luck to you. I am guessing you might be asked to send in semester grades.

I’ll admit the SAT score is a little bit on the low side.

3.8 GPA
Top 25% of class
I applied in October with a 1200/1600 or 1840/2400 SAT and I have taken several AP and Honors courses (AP Physics C, AP Calculus AB, AP English junior and senior year, etc…)

I applied for Computer Science at the School of Arts & Sciences.

A lot of volunteering hours (457 hours) and a few other ECs

Good luck on your admissions and keep us updated on your decision from Pitt.

Son with similar stats was offered a branch campus. They respond pretty fast.

I’ve decided to retake my SAT in 2 weeks. Let’s say before then I get deferred or sent to a branch. If I sent higher scores, another letter of recommendation or 2, and an essay, could I be reconsidered?

You can always ask for another review.

Definitely send in 2-3 letters of recommendations and it’s a good idea to submit the essay.

So I got into Pitt Greensburg. What do I do now for reconsideration?

Send in whatever you didn’t. Recommendations. An essay. Especially send in mid-year grades if they’re good. Explain why Pitt Main is a better fit than Pitt Greensburg. If you still don’t get into Main but love Pitt, go to Greensburg for a year, do well, and transfer over.

I’m having second thoughts now…if my SAT scores come back better would I have a better chance at getting into main if I go as undecided…?

and also, there is no specific prompt I have to write for reconsideration? Do I send all of the stuff to Main or Greensburg?

Was your GPA weighted or unweighted???

I think weighted

What did you apply as in the first place? It might be good to switch to undecided.

Well the recommendations are by your teachers, and they know what they need to write. You send your stuff to OAFA (which is located at Main).

I applied to the school of engineering and was sent to greensburg as I said before. But now I’m having second thoughts, so would I have a better chance if I switch to undecided? I also really want to do the marching band, could I mention that to them? And how would I go about all this? Email, phone, or just send stuff in?

Well if you switch to undecided, that puts you in A&S, which means you are going to be a little behind for engineering (because you have to take a 2-term programming class in SSOE your freshman year). Depends on if you’re okay with that or not. Also, if you switch, there’s no guarantee that when you come to Pitt SSOE will let you take classes.

I think it would help to explain why you want to go to Main over a branch (i.e. Marching Band. Since you obviously can’t do it at a branch campus).

You would email this to OAFA

Have you considered just going to Greensburg for a year and then transferring to Pitt Main? I have many friends who did that and are very happy here now…
