Chance of getting in..?

I am a senior in high school and UCSD is my current first choice. I will be majoring in Computer Science. I am worried because I believe my SAT scores will make or break my admission. How do you think I fare in UCSD?

I have 2 more chances to take the SAT & ACT on October and November.

So what do you think?

Thanks!

PS I also checked the point system..has the 7600 pt. threshold increased? What is it now? I believe I am in the mid 7600s..

What’s your class rank?

[UC San Diego Comprehensive Review Admission Process: Freshman Selection, Fall 2010](http://www.ucsd.edu/prospective-students/freshmen/eval-process.html)

the gpa out of 4500, you will get around 3900
the exams is SAT + .8(SAT2’s)
you get full points for community service with 250 hours i believe.

It takes about 7800-7900 points to get in.

@ $kingsellite$ does class rank affect the decision much because i did poorly freshman year and since my school ranks including freshman year gpa my 9-12 gpa is much lower than 10-12 gpa ( 3.86 W vs 4.25 W) im only 31% but it might get alittle higher after i get a grade change when school starts

@Alving0107

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think your rank will negatively affect you assuming you’re up there for all the stats anyway. The thing is, if you’re in the top 4% of your class, you’re given something called the ELC status which greatly improves your chance at admission.

I think with stronger SATs this could be a match! or ACTs. I like your extra curriculars they seem focused and strong! Bring up those test scores and you’re good! Look at other UCs too they are all good!

Chance Me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/981888-chances-getting-skidmore-union-f-m-chance-me-ill-chance-you.html</a></p>

I believe I am in the top 10-15% of my class :</p>

Right now I am studying hard to improve my SAT by 200 pts. since I believe a 1950 would be a really good SAT Score combined with my extracurriculars.

I received a 620 on Math II (should I retake it again?) and I am planning on taking Biology E/M on Oct. or Nov. depending on how ready I am for it.

% wise how much chance do you guys think I can get in?

look at my post, its a formula to see if you will get in. i have 8200 about

I hope you do make it. As for me, there was no way. I went to community college for two years, got guaranteed admission, dedicated staff, and a smaller bill. Good Luck!

@ $kingselite$ ok thanks :] thats a relief
@mccormickt12 What would you say is the range of points that would almost guarantee acceptance because i calulated mine and got about a 8568. Thats if i calculate my current sat scores and give myself the full 300 points for like first generation to attend college and low income. (idk if they give you points depending on how low it is ? Also do i count as first gen. if i have 2 older sisters who already attended and is attending college) ; i plan on retaking the sat and sat2s and hopefully score higher. Also, do ACTs not count for UCSD?

i have heard that 7800 gets you in, but it depends on the class applying. I believe however that if you have elc and over 8000 its a pretty safe bet.

mccormickt12, I’ve tried evaluating myself with the point system…tried my best to be unbiased as possible…haha what do you think?

Grades: 3900
Tests: 2726 (1750+.8(620+600)) assuming I do 600 or better on my Bio. SAT II
Number a-g Courses Beyond Minimum: 500 (over-estimating?)
ELC:100 (I believe they give you a little bit of points if you are atleast at the top 15%?)
Educational Environment: 200 (95% go to colleges, very competitive Jesuit private school)
Low Family Income: n/a
First Generation: n/a
Leadership:300 (president of 2 clubs and taught over 75+ hrs at dojang)
Special Talents: 300 (medals, experience in Taekwondo for 12 years)
Community & Volunteer: 200 (I don’t know if I can count the hours I have taught at the dojang. they were all voluntary…for now I did not count but I would have gotten full credit If I had)
Academic Programs:100 CSF (California Scholarship Federation) Tutoring 10+ Hours & Kumon Tutoring (does this count?) I gave myself minimal points for this category
Special Circumstances:300(Immigrant? I really don’t know how to grade myself in this but life for me has changed drastically when I moved to CA from the Philippines. )

All of this would be 8426… did I grade myself accurately? Kinda hard to find out how they grade you so I gave it my best guess.

I dont know how they do everything, i have heard about how they do the grades and tests formula, 250 hours for full community service points and that is all i know, i tryed to underestimated myself just incase. But this is all guess work, it all looks pretty good, but i am not an admissions officer.

Make sure you write good essays

"Make sure you write good essays "

Yep. About your heritage / immigrant status if you can. They eat up the diversity angle. I’m white, and a transfer, but when I talked to a woman in admissions she spoke of how some kids get accepted by “exception.” Shifty business.

^^ @ fl1p1npr1d3 education enviroment: correct me if im wrong but i think you get points for being in a disavantaged enviornment. not a good one sorry :/

@fl1p1npr1d3
CSF does not count for any points. Also 200 hours of community service equals the full 300 points. As far as ELC goes I think you only get the points if you are in ELC.

@alving0107 ACT’s count just the same as the SAT does. Each ACT score corresponds with an SAT score
ACT 30= SAT 1980

@nicholep Thanks again :] haha so do they choose which one you did better on when giving you points? For example. if I get a 30 on ACT vs if i get a 1900 on SAT ? Do they give me 1980 points plus my SAT 2 scores times .8 ? Sorry if that seemed comfusing. Also if 1980 on SAT = 30 on ACT does that mean 1 ACT point equals to 66 SAT points?

@alving0107
UCSD chooses your best score regardless if it is SAT/ACT

Do they give me 1980 points plus my SAT 2 scores times .8 ?- yes

One ACT point is equal to about 60 SAT points. You can search ACT to SAT conversion chart for every score.

@nicolep What kind of Academic Programs would be considered?

Edit: Nevermind, I saw the list…NHS doesn’t seem to be there :</p>

@fl1p1npr1d3
Academic Programs are any prep courses you took to get you prepared for college. My school had a partnership with SDSU called compact for success. The meetings and tours we had to attend counted as academic programs. I don’t know if your school district has that or something similar. I think SAT/ACT prep courses count as well.
