My weighted gpa is a 3.86 and my unweighted is 3.8. I didn’t take the SAT but I took the ACT and got a 26 on it. Im from Kansas so I don’t know if that makes the chances higher or lower as an out of state student. I know these scores aren’t the best but I am really wanting to get into this school and waiting to find out is killing me. Some people who currently attend think that I will have a good chance of getting in because they say that kinesiology is not one of the most popular majors to have. If anyone has an idea of whether or not I will get accepted that would really help me.
It may not be a large major, but it is competitive. Looking at last year’s projections (https://content-calpoly-edu.s3.amazonaws.com/ir/1/images/2017-18%20Enrollment%20Targets%20and%20Projections.pdf), they were expecting 1600 apps for 56 spots, or somewhere around a 10% acceptance rate. There aren’t a whole lot of posts for that major, but given this one (http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20339441/#Comment_20339441) I’d say I hope you have some safety schools. Good luck.
Kinesiology as stated above is highly competitive at SLO. SLO does not report average stats by major but they do post them by College.
Averages for the College of Science and Mathematics where Kinesiology is housed:;
Average CP GPA:4.09. Average ACT: 30
Since it is a competitive major, you want stats at or above the averages.
Low Reach to Reach school for you.
I’m sorry to post negative anecdotal evidence, but it is relevant. My son’s friend had almost identical stats as my son (seriously, it was freaky). He had a weighted 3.9 gpa, lots of extra-curriculars, and is in-state. However, he was not accepted to Cal Poly as a Kinesiology major. Like it has been posted: lots of applicants for a small number of spots. The bright side is that he was accepted to the honors program at San Diego State, so he found a very desirable landing spot.
