I am a senior this year at a public high school in FL. I have a 3.7 weighted gpa and around 3.3 unweighted - grades have improved drastically as I've progressed through high school. I got a 33 on my ACT (34s on every subject except math, which I got a 31 in) For academic classes I haven't taken below honors or AP I will have taken 10 AP classes/exams by the time I graduate. I am an AP scholar with Distinction and haven't gotten below a 3 on any exam. For ECs I am 3-year letterman in weightlifting(open conference champ and district qualifier), played football 3 years as well as volunteering at a hospital. I am also a legacy as I have a grandparent who taught law there. How are my chances? Should I spend the money to apply?

Did your grandparent attend Columbia as well?

It’s probably worth a shot, although the legacy boost might only apply to ED. If you want to go there, I’d do it, but if you really don’t care either way, why bother?

I’m not sure I’ll have to ask. Either way it is one of my top schools I want to go to and I have some extra EC’s I could mention on it(church mission trip) and I could probably write a pretty convincing essay. I am not sure but it’s getting close to deciding where I’m going to apply.

If you really want to go there, APPLY!

I really wanted to go to Penn, where my brother was, and I was totally not sure or even hopeful. I managed to get in, so it is worth a shot if you want it.

The worst they could do is say no, but you will never know if you don’t apply.

Thank you! That is another school I’m applying to so hopefully I’ll get into one of them.
