chance of getting into iu bloomington

and also u of i urbana champaign, ohio state university, and university of Wisconsin madison as undecided major for all of them

My unweighted gpa is 3.5 right now going into senior year. However, I got 3 Ds on second semester of my junior year. I got 3.0 in first semester and 2.4 in second semester of my junior year. I really slacked off and went through personal issues during my junior year. My weighted is 3.8. I took 2 ap classes in junior year and plan to take 3 on senior year. I am going to get A s and Bs only in my senior year to show that I am not a complete retard to colleges. My ECs aren't so good. I am a Eagle scout, played varsity sport for 2 years, math team(several award), spanish club, nhs, and lead trumpet player in pep band, concert band and jazz band. I played in state level band. I got 2000 composite SAT score, 750 on math, 600 on CR, 650 on writing. Should I apply for all of them? or will it be waste of time since I messed up my junior year so badly. I got 800 on both history and math 2 btw but got 2 on ap calc exam. Will applying as undecided help my chance?

my gpa went downhill which is terrible. went from 3.95 to 3.84 to 2.75. I am planning to get bout 3.6 on my senior year 1st semester. I am planning on applying all of them for regular admission since I have to get senior 1st semester grade sent to colleges.

im asian male from il with a citizenship btw.

Well, I think you are fine (Match) for all the above mentioned schools, with IUB as your safety. However, know that tOSU has switched to Common Application for 2012-2013, there will certain be a surge in applications (estimated ~25% increase), so apply early!!

Best of Luck!! :)

but some of my friends told me I probably won’t get into any of those colledges bc I had 3 D on second semester of junior year although I still have 3.5 overall going into my senior year

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You still have an alright GPA overall. Apply early to all these schools so that you can get your decisions back early and make any other plans if needed.

btw what’s difference between common app and non common app

The Common App is an application that you fill out once, and then can send to multiple schools. This eliminates having to write essays for each individual school (although some schools require a supplement – sometimes requires additional essays or short answer questions).

IU does not require essays for their application, so you’re good there!

At UIUC, I think the undecided option is LAS General. Generally, that department is much less selective than either business, engineering, LAS Chemistry/Bio/Actuarial Science. However, I think you may still have a problem getting in because of the Ds on your transcript.

I’m not sure what state you live in, but another option would be to attend a less selective directional state school, get good grades, and then transfer into one of the schools on your list for your sophomore year.

oh I thought there was like a general study because I am not sure what I want to do for future. what does LAS stand for. In u of i website, school rank is with in 86% to 97% and SAT is around 1900 and 2100 for LAS colleges. Those stats are just as good as business schools. Should I not apply for U of I then? maybe different major? would be it easier for other college mentioned above to apply as undecided major? I really appreciate all of you guys helping dumb kid like me out

All I know about what I want to do later is that it’s math not science related

LAS stands for Liberal Arts and Sciences. There are departments within LAS that are harder to get into (Chemistry, Biology, Chem Engineering, Actuarial Science), so that is probably the reason why LAS’ admission statistics are high. However, it is easier to get into LAS General than it is to get into LAS-Chemistry, for example.

I would encourage you to apply, to U of I but I would have a backup plan in case you don’t get in. Assuming you’re an Illinois resident, you could attend Illinois State for a year and then attend U of I for the final three years of undergrad (assuming your first year grades are decent).

Honestly, I wouldn’t pay out-of-state tuition to get a general studies degree from any of the above schools. That’s too much money for that degree IMO.

oh… Do I have chance to get into any of those 4 schools mentioned above as math major? above 50 percent shot in any of them? and what’s difference between DGS and LAS-general then…

I stand corrected. U of I eliminated the LAS General curriculum. It is now called DGS, or the Division of General Studies.

At U of I, math is harder to get into than general studies.

So, If I apply as DGS and get in to U of I, can I change my major to math major?

Yes. [Math ICT](http://provost.illinois.edu/programs/advising/ICT%20LAS%20-%20Math.html)

thANKS guys!
