Hi! I’m currently a sophomore. I’m interested in Middlebury to maybe major in Spanish and minor in creative writing. Here’s my resume. Since I still have two and a half years, I’d love your brutally honest feedback about the track I’m on.
Academics:
-4.0 GPA in my school’s challenging IB magnet program. I’ll be in the diploma program the next two years–I plan to HL Spanish, English and History, and then SL bio, math and philosophy.
-My PSAT score, without studying, was about 1200? I was in the 99th percentile for reading and 89th for math.
-I probably will be certifiably fluent in Spanish by the time I graduate–taking the test after level 7.
Extracurriculars:
-Played the violin for 9 years by graduation. I’ve been stuck in my school’s lower orchestra for two years because of scheduling issues, but the next two years I’m basically guaranteed to be able to be in the audition-only competitive chamber orchestra. (I’ve already been accepted.)
-I will have participated in my school’s pit orchestra for the musical all 4 years, as a violinist for the first two but maybe as a drummer for one of the other years.
-Guitar and ukulele for 5 years by graduation, drums for 4 years.
-Passionate about creative writing. I’ve been published in Teen Ink and won Scholastic writing awards. I’ve been recording my stories since I could physically write. I’ve taken creative writing at school, and I constantly enter contests so I hope to have a decent number of accolades under my belt.
-Competed in my school’s forensics (competitive public speaking) league, where I’ve done very well. I’m the secretary of the club, the only officer who’s not graduating this year, so I’ll likely be president of the club the next two years.
-Participated in school drama club, probably will be a thespian by the time I graduate.
Other:
-I’m white, but I’m transgender (ftm). Will this help me?
-150+ community service hours
Also, will I need other experience with Spanish to be accepted? I love the language, but I don’t have the time and we don’t have the money for many classes or programs outside of school. But I haven’t researched that much, maybe there’s stuff in the summer I can do.
Thanks!
