chance of getting into San Diego State Nursing

I am just wanting to know the chances of me getting into San Diego State for nursing i have a 1050 SAT score but i took it 5 times. i am a terrible test taker but i still kept trying and i made a 21 on my ACT and i have a 3.8 GPA. I am really worried i will not be admitted and i am also out of state but i have a friend that has a lower SAT score than me but was admitted. i am heavy involved in AFJROTC and band and i plan to continue to do Air Force ROTC in college and become an officer.

When was your friend admitted? What was their CSU GPA and SAT/ACT scores? Highly unlikely that they were admitted unless they had a very high CSU GPA to offset a lower SAT score.

Here is the data for last year’s incoming Freshman class:

Number of Applicants: 4,832
Number of Students Offered Admission: **356
Average Admitted CSU GPA (Capped Weighted):4.04
Average Admitted SAT Score: Redesigned Version 1345
Average SAT Math: 676
Average SAT Reading: 657
Average ACT Score:: 29

I would say a Reach based on your stats.

He made a 1010 on his SAT.

is it best if i appeal and retake my sat? or should i just change my major altogether my backup is biology

SDSU won’t give you a penny of aid. Can you afford it?
I don’t think you will get into the impacted majors because there are so many instate residents with better stats.
Who knows? maybe the state needs to see how many people are willing to fork out $40K per year.

When was he admitted? SDSU changed their Nursing program in 2014 as a direct admit. Prior to that year, they offered admission into a Pre-Nursing major with lower acceptance requirements vs the direct admit.

SDSU accepts only up to the November sitting so there is no retaking if you applied for Fall 2018. You would need to contact SDSU if it is even possible to change your major at this point and they do not consider your alternate major.

my tuition is free due to VA benefits.

Housing is not included. Did you check the net price calculator?
Did you know that the CalStates have a cap on OOS students?

yes! and i have about $48,000 in scholarships so far to make up what is not covered

Just want to post something else stated on the SDSU Nursing website:

IMPORTANT! Students admitted to SDSU as undeclared, or as a major other than Nursing, will not be able to change their major to Nursing during their tenure at SDSU.

thank you! if they do let me change my major i will just major in biology and once i graduate become a physicians assistant in the Air Force.

Thanks for your service but, probably not.

CSUCI is much more likely.

they let me change my major to biology so i think i have a higher chance of getting in.

Your eligibility index calculates out to a 4090 for SAT and 970 for ACT. I would say borderline 50/50, but best of luck.

thanks!

i was accepted

Congrats! So you got in for Biology?

yes i did!

if i wanted to transfer to ucla after 2 years at sdsu could i do that? or is the process easier if you attend a cc and then transfer to a uc?

Transferring from a CC to a UC is more straight forward since the CA CC’s have assist.org which helps articulate the correct courses needed for transfer. Some the CSU courses do not articulate as well for UC Transfer but still possible. What is your end goal to get into UCLA nursing or continue with Biology?
