Chance of getting into UC Berkeley's Engineering School

Hi there. I am a high school senior waiting to hear from Cal on March 29.

I was just wondering if anyone could evaluate whether I have a good chance or not.

To start off, I have already been accepted to WashU, UCLA (engineering), UCSB, and Cal Poly. My only rejection so far was Stanford EA.

UW GPA: 4.00
UC W GPA: Around 4.3-4.4

ACT: 33, (36 in math, 34 in science)
SAT Math Level II-800, SAT Physics-740

APs last year: Physics (5), Calc AB (5), US History (5)
This year: Calc BC, Calc III, Linear Algebra, Psych, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Gov/Politics

As far as extracurriculars, I do a lot of non-engineering stuff. I am a camp counselor, baseball coach, math tutor, and work with special needs children.

It may also help to know that I am a white male, applying...

Thanks for your advice. I'm very nervous, as Cal is for sure my top choice.

Note that selectivity does vary by major within Berkeley’s College of Engineering.

I applied for Bioengineering.

Bioengineering is a popular freshman applicant major, so it may be more difficult to get into than most other engineering majors.

Your stats look good, but there are holistic review aspects like your essay that cannot be deduced from your stats.

BioE’s pretty selective, and it seems (to me at least) that the essays are a pretty big deciding factor given that virtually everyone coming in was a top performer in HS. You’re strong stats-wise - roughly as strong as I was - and I got in with a Regents offer, but I’m also a pretty good writer and my essays were two of the best things I’ve ever written, so…yeah.

I’d say you’ve got a pretty good chance.
