Hey guys
What’s the chance that I’m gonna get into UCLA?
GPA: 3.75 unweighted; 4.1 weighted
SAT: 1480
Extracirriculars: Varsity volleyball, JV Cross Country
I have the presidential service award for being a camp counselor
I have worked as a dental assistant for the past year
I am the president of MUN at our school
I feel like my extracirriculars are good, but I am not so sure about my GPA
I’m not an expert at this or anything… but it’s hella hard to get into UCLA. A friend of mine in the top ranks of his class with 1550 SAT score, a 4.5 gpa, and hundreds of hours volunteering at a doctor’s office got him denied from UCLA. He said that his girlfriend, who got a perfect SAT score (!!!) and was the president of NHS and UNICEF, got denied too. Most of the people I know that got accepted were people that won awards at national levels for journalism/math/writing/etc.
I have heard, though, that admissions at UCLA does tend to look at the process more holistically than at other UCs… which would be beneficial in your case because your stats aren’t as good as your ECs.
That said, I think it’d be great if you get your stats up (unless you already applied and you’re a senior)!
My UCLA attending friends say that you have a 50% chance… unless you wrote killer essays, in which they claim your chance rises 30%.
Good luck! I’m warning you… I’m just a sophomore, but I do get a lot of intel from the Asian community. <3
Intended major?
UCLA should be considered a Reach school due to low acceptance rate and the # of applicants each year. Your stats put you within range but so are thousands of other applicants. Make your essays shine to distinguish yourself. Your solid EC’s.
UC Capped weighted GPA and Fully weighted GPA? SAT subject test scores? HS course rigor?
Some UCLA statistical data:
2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific: UCLA is 9%
Average Capped Weighted UC GPA: 4.23
25th-75the percentile SAT: 1340-1540
Best of luck.
