Hello all,
I’m really worried about my chances as of right now. I want to transfer into USC as a sophomore student (Dornsife, Biology major) from Community College. I had mediocre grades in high school (about like a 3.2 UW) and a 1500 SAT. My first semester at CC is as follows:
Physics 1 (Mechanics, Kinematics, etc): A
Gen Chem 1: B
Critical Writing: A
Other classes (2): A
Total Fall 2019 units: 19
Total units completed so far (both Fall and Summer): 25
Total units planned for Spring 2020: 16
Total units by end of academic year: 41
I have one letter of recommendation from my Physics professor, who knows me well because I did well in her class and I went to her for help often.
I also have two other classes that I took in summer, both of which I got A’s in. My current GPA is 3.86. I would ideally want a 4.0 as that will make me more competitive but right now that is not possible. I am taking Gen Chem 2, Physics 2, and General Bio 1 next semester. My supplemental essays are alright, nothing too extraordinary but my answers were well thought out, personal, and original. Of course, I still have time to edit them so I will undoubtedly make them much more refined. I have plenty of ECs from high school (orchestra, Eagle Scout, medical field volunteering and competitions, Varsity tennis captain, over 300 hours of volunteering) that I got awards in.
I had the death of a loved one that came up and I wasn’t able to do well in school because of it. I understand that everyone’s case is different and that it’s impossible to determine exactly what USC will think of a particular applicant. I guess I just want to know whether or not one B will hurt my chances by a large margin. Thanks all.
