The housing website says even if you and the person you room with put each others ids down on the housing app, there's still a chance you will be assigned a random roommate. Did this happen to anyone? Or is it more likely they will pair me up with the person I request?

They will definitely pair you up with the person that you request.

I say the change is 95% since they encourage people to request roommate mainly b/c this resolves any possible roommate problems :). Ie… say a double is somewhat semi-hard to get, but if you are a freshmen with a request roommate, they will most likely give you a double.

I’ve never heard of anyone not getting the roommate they indicated on their housing app. I’m pretty sure they give you your requested roommate 100% of the time.

What Pixel said is not entirely correct, though. If you request one roommate you can be put into a triple with a third random roommate (this happens a lot, actually). Requesting a roommate does not increase your chances of getting a double one bit.

Also, I always discourage incoming freshmen from requesting to live with friends from high school - it almost never ends well!

i agree with kevrus on not living with hs friends. i think it’s better to meet new people

I roomed with my friend from high school, and it actually did end up well. What I will say though, is if you are going to do this, make sure you know the person really well and know that you’ll be able to live in a small space with him/her for a year. And make sure you set boundaries.

What if I am a Spring admit in the FPF program? We don’t apply for housing at the same time, but will I still be able to dorm with my friend who is a Fall admit? Do FPF students live in the same dorms as regular students?

That’s what I did and yes.

Living in a triple right now. I requested both of my roommates and got them both, so I’d say the chances are pretty good.

Thanks for the responses. So when you filled out the application, did you coordinate with your roommate to make it look exactly the same, or did you just need to put each others ids down?

Ehhh I think it’s fine to live with high school friends as long as you are both social. My brother and his best friend lived together in the dorms freshmen year and in an off campus apartment with a few other roommates sophomore year. My brother joined a fraternity and his friend was a recruited athlete, so they both formed their own circle of friends, but still hung out. They are still very close, even two years after graduating from college.

If you put his/her name down and he/she puts your name down, you’re good. Don’t need to match every single thing on the application. I used to be on hall staff and all of my residents got their roomie requests granted (if they made one).

FPF people: It is probably in your best interest to room with someone you know (non-FPF) because you will have a better chance in getting on-campus housing if you and your friend request each other. At least this was the case when I was living in the dorms.
