Hey there CC, I know that it's hard to really say if someone is definitely in or not (except if your top 8% in-state) but despite all that i've done, I'm looking for some way to have my anxiety assuaged. Here's what my credentials look like right now:

-Senior
-Non-ranking but pretty noteworthy high school
-Out of state (NY)
-Step mother is an alumnus

In terms of academics:

3.94 GPA
30 on the ACT 10 on the writing
770 on the US SAT II
680 on the Bio SAT II
5 on the US AP
currently taking AP Bio and AP Spanish language; currently have an A in Bio and B+ in Spanish
All four years I've taken very challenging classes and I've never taken free periods or anything like that

I'm a heath TA for sophomore students (only 15 students are chosen)
Member of the school newspaper (two years)
Have work experience for a year and a half in ski retail and service, and also as an entrepreneur (started pet care business over one summer and currently am a freelance writer)
Member of my school's science olympiad (compete in scientific competitions in state)
My volunteer hours are dispersed over a lot of community events as well as events that involve teaching kids about science and health

Currently writing a paper out of class that is assessing why success is not based on the institution but the individual

I applied for both the college of natural sciences and the college of communications

It's hard because OOS is a whole different ball game, but what do you think are my chances?

You seem like a well-rounded student and have good grades. Being OOS might help you IMO because UT likes to have a diverse group of students. By any chance, has UT contacted you yet about anything because if they have then it means something (I used to work for the people who call prospective students)

You have a shot, just make sure your write a good essay which demonstrates your desire to attend UT and why.

My OOS daughter’s admission decision just posted on status check page on www.bealonghorn.com. She’s admittted to College of Natural Sciences. Good luck and use that status check page because they do rolling decisions I think.

UT has historically made some rolling admits out of the ‘holistic’ pool (non-top 8%, OOS and international) when the stats are very strong and a special admission procedure doesn’t apply, e.g., I can’t recall…but I could be mistaken…ever seeing early admits for engineering, which uses holistic review for all, even those within the top 8%.

Congrats to stillwatermom’s daughter!

And OP blutz2, congrats on earning such a nice profile. I think your chances are good, but gosh, it is so hard to predict with UT’s admission process. I do think everyone in the holistic pool has a slightly better chance this year than last year because the size of the holistic pool increased when the auto-admit pool was capped at 75%. Good luck!

Congratulations to stillwatermom’s daughter indeed. My DD applied for Cockrell and was hoping to get an early notification. Guess she’ll have to wait a while longer. She is in state and attending a non-rank school where all students take only college courses in mostly math and science subjects.

D’s stats-1/198 class rank, 33ACT, 11 Writing ACT. Commended Merit Scholar, National Hispanic Scholar, AP Scholar, Regional Science Award, lots of school involvement, volunteering, varsity sport. Most rigorous coursework at high school.

Thanks for the congratulations everyone. And it appears that you all have strong stats also, but will have to be patient for awhile longer. UT Austin is an incredible undergraduate experience.
Good Luck!

Cichlidfish, your DD’s at TAMS? That’s impressive. I’m guessing she is viewing UT as her safety. We are fortunate to have such a highly-regarded flagship for engineering and many other degree programs. Good luck!

Thanks, TXArtemis. She’ll be very grateful if she is accepted into Cockrell. Although all her best friends from her old HS have received acceptance letters from UT already under 8% rule, she has no regret for her decision to go to TAMS. She really enjoyed there and we are really proud of her for taking the challenge even though it means no guarantee into UT.

Hi I read the post by AAli4Real that said if UT calls you that it means something. I was wondering what the importance of a phone call was?
Thanks!

I mean I got a phone call last night from them just telling me to remember to send all my stuff in (i’ve been done since oct 24th) and if I had anymore questions, I don’t know if that was THE phone call…
