I was accepted to the University of Pittsburgh--it is my top choice, and the only school I applied to. I've had all A's and B's in mostly Honors and AP classes all throughout high school, except for one C in AP US History my sophomore year. However, this year, I took a harder course load than I anticipated. All of my classes are Honors/AP, and I have all A's and B's except for two classes: AP Statistics and AP Spanish. There is a chance that I may get a C in both classes. It's not a case of senioritis; I'm trying my best in those classes, they're just hard. I'm trying to pull up my grades this semester, but I'm not starting off on a great foot already.

Is there a chance my acceptance will be rescinded? Should I contact Pitt and ask? I'm really, really worried.

You could contact Pitt if you think it will ease your nerves. But I don’t think you should be so concerned. A “C” in an AP class still counts for 4 points, so it won’t dent your GPA severely. Even if you did get "C"s in the classes, I doubt Pitt would rescind your admission.

They’ve already reviewed your application and deemed you fit for the school; I think it would take more than some AP "C"s for them to strongly reconsider. If you were in threat of getting "D"s, then I would be worried. On top of that, you don’t know that you’ll get "C"s in the classes. If you work hard (and even get tutoring if necessary) you could get a “B” in the classes. Don’t worry. Things will turn out fine for you. Good luck at Pitt!

You wont be rescinded.

How can you be so sure?

None of us can be sure. But we think it’s quite unlikely. Don’t have a defeatist attitude about the subject. Stay optimistic; work hard, and things will work out.

You may not get rescinded, but if you have 2 C’s in 2 AP classes, you have to figure out what you can do to improve time management, studying, or how to seek out additional help. You have to figure this out before you get to university so you have the right tools once the going really gets tough.

I’m doing well in all my other AP classes. These two are just especially hard. I think I’m okay with time management, etc.

Does the admission letter specify any conditions that you have to maintain to avoid getting the admission rescinded?

It basically says that my acceptance is provisional based on “continued satisfactory performance in your classes and graduation from high school”.

So what should I take this to mean?

You should take it to mean that as long as you don’t blow it completely… you’re in. Don’t worry so much. I don’t think they will have a severe problem with the "C"s.
