I go to a small not very academically well known liberal arts college. I had a 4.0 after my first semester with a few upper level classes. I have a 4.0 so far in my second semester with several upper level classes (2-200's and 1-300). My extra curriculars are pretty solid (elected official in student government, poly sci committee, tutor, student ambassador). I went to one of the top high schools in the nation but only got a 3.2 with 6 AP's and only a 1200 (1850) on my sats. I am from virginia. Any chance at getting into UVA after my first year?

You have a shot. Try it…

Its worth trying, but as you surely know they will look equally at your college and high school stats. I had about the same high school stats you did and am trying to transfer now as a sophomore. If you don’t get in, try again next year, when they will look mainly at your college work.

Yes, you have a chance. I hope you get in.

I would retake the SATs if I was you though.

chance me everyone!

Hey, I think you have a good chance.

What major are you applying for?

Im a poly sci major, or at least hope to be. do recommendations have an bearing on the outcome?

Heh, I guess we are in the same boat. I am a poli sci major (government I think they call it at UVa). While they say recommendations are not required and that you will not be penalized for not having one, I have a hard time believing that. However, I am in some pretty big classes and do not know my professors all that well so I guess I won’t be sending any. So apparently recommendations don’t hurt but they do help.

I was hoping someone would chance me for UVA
In high school I had a 3.4gpa with 1810sat’s,top 25% of a large class, couple AP’s and some honors classes, president of my class for three years, involved in a couple other clubs, member of the national honor society, great recommendations from my community and school, loads of volunteer work.
At a local community college in NY state (Ranked top 25CC in the country) I have my gpa up to a 3.8, have a leadership position in the political science club, and hold down a part-time job.

So do I have a shot at getting admitted into the UVA CAS as a third year politics major?
