Chance of transferring to the U of M?

I'm an international student at a community college, here are my stats/info:

GPA: 3.77

Credits: 31

Member of Phi Theta Kappa. Also on the Dean's list.

I'm currently doing Psychology, Music, Philosophy, English Literature (Honor) and Geography. Got A's in Macro/Microeconomics, English Composition 1/2, Statistics, Earth Science, Public Speaking and B's in College Algebra and Financial Accounting.

I want to transfer to CLA, majoring in Economics next semester. So what are my chances? Also do I have a shot at Carlson with those stats?

You definitely have a chance at U of M. Definitely be authentic in your essays as coming from community college, they will want a great story to go along with it.

Where are you from? I think you’ll get into CLA; you need to have a really good essay and have to do some extracurricular activities to get into Carlson. Carlson admits only around 66 transfers per semester. Almost half of CLA (including myself) tries their best to transfer to a different college so they should welcome you.

@quirky294 - I’m living in Minnesota and go to a nearby community college. I just want to be clear: there is no essay required for CLA, but only Carlson, correct? Otherwise is CLA a good college? I’m curious because you said that half of CLA students want to transfer to other colleges. It depends on the major they’re doing right? I want to study economics there, so what would you say about CLA economics department (if you know)?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah CLA has no essay requirement (unless they changed things really fast) and Carlson does. CLA is OK. It’s not great. I transferred out of CLA to CBS because it didn’t have the major I wanted, which is a very popular move at this school. It does depend on the major, but lots of my friends transferred to a different college because CLA doesn’t have majors that most students need. Half of CLA is an exaggeration, but a lot of kids do transfer (or try to transfer) out of CLA.

CLA is really good for economics, though. You should definitely come here if you’re doing economics. Good luck.

When should I re-apply? I already applied for CLA 2014 Spring Admission but it seems that my chance of getting in next Spring is very thin. I’m still waiting for their reply, however I’m a bit worried since everyone I know who applied for 2014 Fall Admission has already receive their decisions back; some of them with lower GPA than mine eventually got accepted by CLA. Can I have two application at the same time? Does it affect their decision making?

Sorry for my late reply. You should get in to CLA. I don’t think your decision should be affected with two applications.
