chance of UChicago

What are the chances that I have of getting into the University of Chicago?
I am a junior

I have taken the following AP classes:
World History
MacroEcon
English Lang & Comp
Statistics

For my senior year, I plan to take the following AP classes:
Computer Science AB
Calculus (AB or BC, don't know yet)
A science (probably physics?)
English Lit & Comp
MicroEcon?

My GPA is a 3.82

Our county uses the 94-100 = A scale

I got 2200+ on SATs

I am in honor societies and am applying to a poetry competition and trying out for the varsity golf team.

I am a minority from the Middle East; first gen born in USA

Where do i stand in terms of University of Chicago admissions?

it’s pretty much guaranteed acceptance if you apply ea. urm/first gen=accepted fo sho

You are not a URM. It’s a reach. Next year will be harder than ever. Good luck and apply EA if it is your first choice.

I would never use the term guaranteed acceptance when talking about UChicago.

“first gen born in USA” is not what “first generation” means for college admissions purposes. The OP has to be the first in his family to attend college in order to qualify for “first generation” status.

The OP is also not a URM.

Also, EA is not supposed to increase one’s chances of acceptance.

Well, the OP is an URM by virtue of his unconventional background, although not on a racial basis.

I’d say that the OP has a good a chance as anyone. Keep in mind that essays are extremely important for UChicago.

Btw, try posting this in the Chances forum if you haven’t already.

getting into UChicago early is a joke. now why you’d want to go to school in the ghetto is another story. the only reason uchicago receives as much recognition as it does is because of its graduate programs/reputation. i’d go there for grad school if i were you cuz that’s what it’s known for.

Ignoring the post above, I can tell you that your stats are wonderful and certainly put you within reach of UChicago- however, it is your ESSAYS that will get you in. Be smart, be yourself, and have fun with them.

I’m pretty sure there’s a thread of old essays somewhere in the UChicago forum- they’re hilarious and enlightening to read. Definitely worth a look for anyone looking to apply to UChicago.

(PS- I was admitted to UChicago early, for the record, and I absolutely love the place. Had I not gotten into MIT, I would have gone there with very few reservations.)

@ducktape
well idk maybe uchicago has a regional bias or something but i live in the midwest and i can tell you that i know a lot of people that got into uchicago early that i thought didn’t even stand a chance.

^^^^^^
I am glad that you are not going to Duke with that kind of attitude. Chicago is a extremely nice self selecting school; only its location can detract from its “niceness.”

True, based on the raw %, it doesn’t seem that hard, but it is certainly not “a joke.”

OP, you are not an URM and probably not a first gen college student. As others have said, you have the numbers; you need the essays.

Essays are important, as has been noted. UChicago likes to see the “different” kid who likes to think and learn.

Duke- you are making a fool out of yourself.

ive said it before on other threads and ill say it again about UChi

“The only thing that will ever go down on you there is your GPA”

like read that other thread about the Korean schools…thats UChi…

where am i wrong? apart from the obvious “joke” hyperbole my observations and comments are completely legitimate. i wasn’t bashing uchicago for its admission policies, i’m simply stating what i’ve observed. if you want to go to school on the south side of chicago fine, i’m not gonna stop you. in fact i applaud anyone who’s brave enough to take on the challenge. i like how you people are so sensitive and can instantly hate someone just because they have an opinion that is different from yours and thereby offends you personally. all i said was that uchicago’s graduate programs are more reputable than its undergraduate education (a well known fact to most competent college applicants) and that uchicago has some regional bias when it comes to admissions and you have to go and bite my head off for saying it. wow.

middle east isn’t an URM? there are less iranians/arabs at american universities than african americans…

Though Duke could have worded it a little better to sound less hostile, I must agree that Chicago is more grad-oriented.
