Chance on Transferring?

Hello, I am currently a freshman at Fairfield University and by the end this first semester I should have a 4.0 or at least at 3.7. I will have 15 transferrable credits after this semester and credit from an AP course as well as 6 college credits from a college course I took over the summer. I had originally gotten wait-listed for the Rose Hill campus at Fordham University when I applied as a freshman last fall. I plan on applying for Fordham as a transfer for fall of 2015 and I was wondering my chance for transferring. I had a 3.6 GPA in high school and a decent amount of extracurriculars and got a 1700 on my SATs. I think I didn't get accepted because of my SAT score and I am thinking of taking them again over winter break. Can anyone tell me my chance in transferring? Fordham is my dream school and I would appreciate any advice I could get.

What school do you want to transfer into? Do you need a dorm room or will you be a commuter. You seem like a very good transfer candidate.

College of Arts and Sciences and I’m hoping I could dorm. Do you think I should retake my SATs?

You should definitely aim towards mid 1800s for SATs, but 1900+ should be optimal to almost guarantee admittance. That’s the only weakness I see in your application (then again I am no admissions officer).

Yes, retake the SATs. Good GPA, but Fordham is notoriously hard for grades. So, they may not view your 4.0 at your current school as a possible 4.0 here. Plan on working hard (going to tutor sessions, meeting with teachers, being prepared for EVERY class) to get a B+ here. Talk to admissions and get an idea of what standards they expect for transfer students. Heard little or no FA for transfers, but call FA to get more info. Good luck.

Does anyone know if they require the SAT to transfer to Fordham university. Dont they only look at the gpa if you are a freshman ?? I have a 1790 SAT … What are my chances. My HS gpa is 3.85.

Fordham will only need your SAT if you are applying to transfer with less than 30 college credits. I know of students from community college with a 4.0 who successfully transferred in. They may, however, move many of your classes to electives.

Buttercupp: Fordham already has your SAT scores in your file. Since you are applying as a transfer with 30+ credits, it is not necessary to take the SAT again. Your transfer grades are strong so keep them up for next semester. Since you are already attending a Jesuit university, it is also a positive to your application.

By the end of the 2nd semester I will have 30+ credits, but I will be applying to transfer in March when I am mid second semester and have a full 15 credits under my belt from Fairfield. Do they just assume that it’s 30 credits since I will be taking classes during the 2nd semester and by the fall of 2015 and will have the 30 credits? Sorry if that’s confusing hopefully you understand what I’m asking.

I would think that the transfer application would ask for the Spring 2015 classes you are taking and they would also want to see the final grades. Therefore, they will be reviewing 30+ credits. In addition, they still have your file from high school and will probably re-review those documents as well. You have a very good chance to successfully transfer so go for it. If you decide to retake the SAT only send the scores if they are better than your HS SAT. I, however, don’t think you really need to retake it.

Thank you so much for your help!!
