Chance OOS for cockrell

Hello, chances for OOS from Oklahoma? Thanks.

ACT: 32 (w/o writing, taking dec test with writing)
GPA: 4.0 UW
Rank: 36/561
ECs: NHS, President of Computer Club
Essays: Short but decent
Great rec from physics teacher
Current AP Courses: Calc BC, Physics C, Gov, Lit
Past AP tests: English Language (4)

Also chances for Cockrell Honors Program??

Applied for Electrical Engineering. Thank you :)

How good is your high school in terms of how many people do you think get into Ivy's or top 25 schools? Your stats look pretty good, and I think you have a good chance. Not sure about Honors, but seeing as you have the same stats as I did(same major too), worst case scenario, you should be able to get into Honors after your first year .

Hey, shouldn't you be applying to OU? Just kidding. I think you have some pretty good stats there but I am curious as to what foxshox was asking as well in terms of quantity of students going to Ivies or Top 25 schools. Best of luck to you!

Eh, it's one of the top high schools in Oklahoma, but I don't know about ivies/top 25. Most of the people I know of go to OU for their first few years at least. We had 9 national merit finalists last year. I already got accepted to OU heh (who didn't?), that's the backup plan.

ROFL. I always make a joke on this board for nervous students applying to UT that they can always get into OU if rejected by UT. Best of luck to you.

Thanks a lot :)

Let us know the results. Hope you become a Longhorn!

how about my chances for cockrell?
sat: 750 math 710 writing (9 essay) 660 CR
class rank: 65/1234 (5.3%) - i don't know how good my school is academically, but last year i rmr there were about 15 national merit finalists (i think) out of 4000 students (it's a school with 10 11 and 12th grades)
good essays
texas resident
sat math II: 800
didn't take too many advance classes freshman and sophmore year because i had just come to the US in 7th grade but took 3 ap 1 preap last year and 4 ap 1 preap this year
2 ap exams both 5's last year - bio and physics
this year: ap physics c, ap calc bc, ap psychology, ap gov/eco, preap comp. sci
great recommendation from physics teacher
not too many extra curricular activities (about 130 service hours throughout HS)
main activity was Eagle Depot (peer tutoring organization in my school) - junior and senior year
also did NHS and some volunteering over the senior year summer

turned in my application along w/ fin aid app before dec 1 deadline and sent everything

i'm also gonna send a recommendation from my math teacher (which is even better than the other one) and don't know if i should send ACT score (if it'll help or hurt me, any advice there please?)
comp 31 - math 35 english 31 science 31 reading 26. no writing
these two things i have till jan 15 to send so i'll send those too.

so does it sound like i have a shot? (and any advice on whether to send the ACT score or not?)
would appreciate some feedback

xobile your in beyond a doubt. No need for recs or ACT.

wow really? thanks for replying
very glad to know, cuz i've been worried all this time.
but do you think i should go ahead and send the new recommendation and updated transcript w/ higher gpa and ACT score anyways to improve my fin aid?

and what do you think about honors program?

I think that if your GPA has gone up, you should let UT know. Cockrell Honors is a great program. Hard to get into. I think if you have things that help support you (like a higher GPA) it is worth submitting them.

update: i got accepted to cockrell school of engineering today for ME (first choice)! :)
it took them about 6-8 days after submission

so if you're not sure about ur chances and ur application but your stats are as good or better than mine, then you're probably in

Congratulations to you !xobile!!!...Hope you become a Longhorn when it's all said and done.
