From what I understand from the counselors at my son's Illinois high school, UIUC is doing things a bit different this year. If you are not competitive at the college you applied for, they will offer an admit to an alternative (less selective) program. If so, you may be accepted into the alternative program, even without your bothering to call about it.

really? I just changed it :-(

so now that i've applied to DGS, am i in then?

a final verdict

Current Fresh at UIUC. Just wanted to clear this up. Comp sci is part of the engineering school. Engineering is really competitive and I know a couple of my friends who went into Gen. Studies to boost their GPA ----> transfer into COE. Looking at your scores, DGS shouldn't be a problem. Good luck

ok. so should be in at DGS. in feb, though, unfortunately hopefully that's no disadvantage

so yeah in for DGS then...?

You should be fine at DGS.

You have 0% chance for engineering though.

haha ok, well i'm not into the engineering luckily

hooray DGS

quick question, the DGS app is the same as the UIUC app right?

there's no like separate process.

and if you want to keep chancing, by all means

GSW, it's clear that you REALLY want to go to UIUC.

You simply indicate what school you are applying to on the application (general app to uiuc). I don't know if there is a special supplement for engineering, but that doesn't apply to you.

BTW: I hope you're rich, because OOS tuition is absolutely insane. It kept me away =/

oh ok cool and sorry yeah it's a bit nerve wracking. and about the tuition- well i'm kinda hoping for anything so we'll see how it goes with scholarships and stuff.

I totally know what you mean. The college admissions process is scary and mean. It didn't turn out how I wanted for me, and it's truly not the end of the world if you don't get into the top few schools. (However, I ended up at UW-Madison (current freshman), which I hate and am getting out of ASAP, hopefully for UIUC)

About UIUC Scholarships: When I was accepted and looking for scholarships to UIUC, almost all of them required a 3.8 High School GPA, and many required that 3.8 with an additional 30+ ACT score. I had the ACT but not the GPA, and I found absolutely nothing.
Since the tuition is so high, you'll need to find scholarships in your community because UIUC fails at offering scholarships to people who are "average." If you're really good at a sport and are willing to play at the collegiate level, then you might get something. But besides that, you need community scholarships. And student loans are just all around a crappy idea.

Just curious, have you visited UIUC?

yeah that's exactly what i was going to do. Actually I'm applying to Wisconsin too lol. and I have not visited UIUC, but have a friend there and he says it's fun.
