I'M LOOKING AT IVIES, BUT WHERE DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD APPLY

from looking at your stats, you might want to consider

MIT
Princeton
UChicago
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
Johns Hopkins

those are just on the top end...MIT is gonna be a reach, as it is for everyone, same with princeton... you would have a pretty decent shot at the other 4 though

Thanks for the list. That's what I was thinking of, but my major concern way my GPA because technically if one were to take all honors, he or she could obtain a 5.0. I will have taken, by the end of the year, 11 Honors and 16 AP Courses, so I hope that makes a difference (I have gotten 5s on all so far). How do you feel about my extracurriculars (I forgot to meantion that I am a member of the "A" team for science olympiad and I have a few medals from grades 10, 11, and 12).

Thanks Again

i would rate your ECs around a 7.5/10. No national stuff like intel/siemans which will hurt for MIT/Princeton, but theyre good ECs that will look look on most apps. Editor of the school newspaper is a significant position, and four years of crew is quite a committment which schools will recognize. Ive seen better ECs but yours are definitely above average (im also a little harsh, having gone through the admissions process last year)

I'm entering the Yong Epidemiology Scholars Competition this year, and I think I have a pretty solid study. How important is it to do well on this, or is it just important that I just enter it?
Thanks

entering it looks good, but you should of course try to do well in it. I dont know how it works, but usually things like semifinalist look very impressive on apps.

You should apply to Brown, as apparently they are the most number orientated ivy; whereas, the others place a great emphasis on extra-curriculars because all their students look the same. I'm not saying that Brown applicants aren't also great, but they admit more with perfect scores. Your scores are great, so therefore you should apply to Brown.

P.S. it would help if you didn't misspell words in your essay

brown is definitely not the most number oreiented ivy.. i dont know if there is one but brown isnt it. I know a kid who got into brown ED with my stats, which i dont think are ivy material

No, those with lower stats are admitted: exceptions are made. According to an article; however, Brown turns down fewer people with perfect scores than the other Ivies do.

I'll look for the article.

and also, brown isnt for everyone. i visited and i hated it

Why may I ask?

its suffocatingly liberal there, and the school administration doesnt do anything to try to hide it/make non leftists feel welcome at all. im conservative, but even if i was moderate i couldnt see myself having a good experience there. there were other reasons why also, but thats the main reason

You are truly borderline for any ivy. If you're just making top 10% from a NY school that sends many to top schools, the 1460 SAT and no unusual ECs, your recs and essays will have to be amazing.

I would really focus on schools in the league of Emory/Vandy/Tufts.

You'll find that most colleges are liberal, as education generally steers people in that direction, no offense intended. There are exceptions though: Northwestern, Boston College (as we have disputed), etc.

not like Brown, trust me i visited half the ivy league, didnt feel like i felt at brown at any other school. Sure theyre liberal, even BC has a liberal student body, but not so liberal that would make someone like me feel the way I did when i was there

I have quite a few issues with conservatives, always have, but I'm a liberal, which entails that I should be considerate and understanding towards conservatives. That's the sublime of liberalism: accepting others despite their beliefs. I'm surprised that if they were that liberal they would openly reject you. Also, I don't really associate Brown as being a liberal college, definitely Berkeley, but not Brown. Good to know.

I know that my ECs aren't that great, but I think my course selection could make a difference...do you agree? Here is what I've taken, along with my grades (H = 5.0, A+ = 4.3, A = 4, A- = 3.7, B = 3):
Frosh:
English 9H - B
Math 3H (generally an 11th grade course) - trig - A+
Global History 9H - B+
Studio in Art - B+
Chemistry H - A
Latin 1/2 Accel. (Honors) - A+
French 2H - A-

Soph:
English 10H - B
AP Global History - B+
Math 4H (precalc) - H
Physics H - A
Latin 3 - A
German Accel. 1/2 (Honors) - A-
AP Statistics - H

Junior:
AP English 11 H - A
AP American History - A+
BC Calculus - H
AP Physics C - A+
AP Chemistry - H
Latin 4H - H
Music Theory 1 - A+

Senior:
AP Reading and Writing Prose
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroeconomics
AP Biology
AP Latin - Virgil
AP Music Theory
AP American Government
And Then 1 Physics and 1 Calculus course from EPGY - university level.

I forgot to post my new SAT scores - My best combined is 740 CR, 800 M, 760 W = 2300 TOTAL
Any help is appreciated.

Umm, a strong senior year schedule reads very differently from yours, which includes the easiest APs. Your competitors have taken linear algebra, multivariable calc.....

Right, like I said, I took math: Linear Algebra, and Multivariable Differential Calculus; and Physics: Light and Heat, and Modern Physics from EPGY. Does this change things, or is there another problem with my application? I just need to know where I have a reasonable (reach included) shot of getting in.

Thanks

BROWN IS NOT A NUMBER SCHOOL!!!!! deffff not

they took someone from my school with like 1200 SAT, 3.5 GPA.
