John Hopkins, USCS etc are probably reaches
school more in the UCI acceptance range are more doable for you. You Ec’s are good and its going to look good that you took difficult classes but your GPA and SAT may be a bit weak for some of those top tier schools.
try to get that SAT up and that would help you a ton

good luck!!

Def get the SAT up if you can in the next two months. All your ECs make you seem like an interesting kid as well. You have a good shot at UCI for sure, I would really focus in on there and make sure you write a kick-butt essay for them (if you haven’t done so already).

bump?
btw, what else can i do to raise my chances?

You should focus on the lower UCs (if you are Californian). JHU and UCB are high reach for you.

John Hopkins/Berkeley is a pretty hard school to get into alone, and I think you’re SAT needs some work for that. You’re e.c.s are good enough imo, so just work on those test scores!

Chance me please?

bump? any recommendations on things i should do to improve my chances? thanks!

For Johns Hopkins and UC Berkeley, you can definitely improve your chances by retaking the SATs and scoring 2100+. If the SATs are not doing it for you, maybe consider taking the ACTs. Your ECs are pretty good, and you definitely have a good amount of leadership. Besides improving your SAT scores, I would just say write awesome essays and your chances are solid.

Good luck!

Chance me back please? Thanks! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527858-chance-me-harvard-yale-etc-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Bump? I’m getting varying answers so I’m not sure which is right :p

I think if you raise the SATs, you’ve got a chance for most of the schools you mentioned…I’m thinking that UCLA and Berkeley might be stretching, but there’s always a chance! I strongly recommend that you take the ACTs! A lot of those colleges look at ACTs above SATs, and I personally found the ACTs WAY easier!

Good choice in schools, by the way…pretty much exactly the same as my list

Chance me back?

Most of the Ucs are reaches for you consider smaller schools out of state. Johns Hopkins is a reach. If you can get your sat up then you can move some of the Ucs into your match section.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1538022-chance-will-chance-back.htm</a></p>

so if i moved the sat to about 2100… which UCs would be a match? and youre saying with that transcript that none of the UCs are a match? lol

I’d say with an SAT of 2100, all the UCs but maybe UCLA and Berkeley would most likely accept you! I don’t know much about Riverside though, so you’d have to get a second opinion for that  I think SC, SB and SD would accept you for sure with a bit higher SAT!

I feel that JHU and UCB may be reaches, but with a better SAT who knows! I would definitely try to get that up if youcan. Your ECs are good. I tthing your best bets are UCI, UCR, CSLB, and maybe UCLA. Great ECs! You’ll definitely get into a good UC if anything. You’ll get into a good school for sure.
Chance back please! :(

Am I the only person who thinks it’s a tad optimistic to assume you’ll get/got straight A’s your junior year when you got a C in AP World?

^ No. You are not alone. That’s why I think he should focus on the lower UCs. ;)

1st Semester of your sophomore year basically killed a lot of elite choices. You’ll have to show a 3.6 or higher in a few semesters of college to transfer to them. Your essay will save you though if you can explain why and how you are amazingly better from the experience.

well ap world to me was the hardest class in my schedule even though it was a very interesting class because of the way the teacher taught and the homework. but this year i plan to eliminate some ECs and continue to focus more on my classes.

Your GPA is kind of low, but you’re a sophomore–just try to do really well junior year, it’ll be crucial. Right now JHU, UCLA, and UCB would be very high reaches for you. Try to break the 2000 threshold on your SAT and work up from there–even better for 2100+. Also consider trying the ACT, as it goes with the possibility of you turning out to be more of an ACT kid/prefer the format/do better.

Your ECs are also very strong, that’s a definite plus. You have time to work on your grades, and definitely improve your chances at getting in to your schools–colleges love upward trends. Good luck!
