Chance Please I'm Desperate? Will chance back right away.

I want to study engineering I know I am smart enough to but I don't have anywhere near the grades and I will not go to a Community College for 2 years. I know I am smart enough because when I was in middle school every summer I went to the John Hopkins camp and the test they made us take to see if we would qualify once our teacher recommend us was 8th grade material and we took it in 5th grade and I got in the 94% for math and 85% for english. I pretty much just screwed up high school.
GPA-
9th - 84
10th - 78
11th - 83
Overall is an 82.596.

Class Rank - 151/295 as of January but it has improved and is in the top half according to guidance counselor.

Class Difficulty - About half were honors but no APs.

SATs-
Math-650
CR-470
Writing-480
1120/1600
1600/2400
Will be retaking in attempt to get a 550 on CR and Writing.

Colleges that I would like to go to.
University of Delaware
University of Massachusetts Amherst
University of New Hampshire
Penn State
SUNY Buffalo- Just in case.
Please if you can think of a similar college that has what I and I could get into please put it.

sorry i really want to help you but i don’t know much about these schools…but since you get really good scores i believe you will get in your dream schools!

Good scores…? The only good thing I see is the math part of the SATs everything else is horrible.

U Delaware and U New Hampshire seem like a match

Penn’s a reach

and I don’t know much about the others

Yeah, i want to help you, but honestly don’t know a thing about most of these schools. You really need to improve your sat scores. Your gpa is okay…not that bad. But your CR and Writing scores…you can certainly do better than that. Re-take the sat in the fall, as well as sat subjects tests. Study a lot, and see how you do. Then, write good essays, and apply to all these schools. You most likely will get into at least one of them. Best of luck.

University of Delaware-reach
University of Massachusetts Amherst-high match
University of New Hampshire-not familiar with
Penn State-reach(its nothing personal, they’re super competitive, I have an 88 avg and 1370/1600 and I doubt I’ll get in for engineering)
SUNY Buffalo-I’d say high match along with Amherst.

Have you thought about a lower tier SUNY school, or attending a penn state branch campus and transferring after 2 years? I’m from PA and that’s a very popular choice at my high school. You still do college in 4 years.

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/750122-hopeful-engineer-bad-science-grades.html</a></p>

University of Delaware - low reach to reach
University of Massachusetts Amherst - match
University of New Hampshire - not sure sorry
Penn State - not familiar with either sorry
SUNY Buffalo- match

try to get those scores up and these schools can be matches

I would be concerned about UB with a gpa like that. I don’t see a match there! You appear to be in the lower quartile for SAT CR, gpa, and class rank. I would investigate junior colleges/CC’s that have articulation agreements with these schools - I think you’re going to need to prove you can do the work.

http://apb.buffalo.edu/facts/cds/2008/CDS2008ALL.pdf</a></p>

not much doesn’t seem to be in your favor

an 82% is in the bottom half of the class? (grade inflation)
You are in the bottom half of your class
Your SATs are low

You need to look at other colleges

well this is a little difficult, but I can give a chance for the schools you listed, tell you what needs to happen and then suggest a school or two you should look at.
University of Delaware- reach
University of Massachusetts Amherst-reach
University of New Hampshire-reach
Penn State-high reach
SUNY Buffalo- -high reach

Now reaches dont mean “no chance” but they do mean that you shouldnt set all hope by them. Especially if you’re gonna need financial aid. I believe there are 4-year institutions that would match your criteria.
-MSU-Mankato
-MSU-Moorhead
-MSU-Bemidji
-Arizona State University
-Augsburg College
-Ripon College

These are just a few Midwest schools in MN, and WI.
they’re pretty good schools, and in the end your education is what you make of it.
my advice: Take the ACT, score 25+. don’t send your SAT unless you get it 1800+
especially not to the state schools. also UW-Milwaukee and river falls.
GPA and class rank will hurt you but will not defer you.
Another viable option, is to go to community college for a year and transfer out to a bigger school once you’ve proven you can handle the courseload and rigor of a college setting. Also it helps to get your generals out of the way. There is no shame in going to CC to prove yourself. ever.
Also, being smart enough i omething that a lot fo people are. The lower grades you mention means that you’re not utilizing yourself correctly, ad schools dont like that idea.
My final verdict : go to commmunity college for a year, think about it seriously (it makes all the difference) dont’ rush in to a four year school that you don’t believe is on tier with you simply because you feel the need for one. Prove how smart you are at CC, transfer credits and grades to a top tier university for engineering. Then you’ll be fine.

The lack of APs will hurt. Good luck!

University of Delaware: middle
University of Massachusetts Amherst: middle
University of New Hampshire: middle
Penn State: lower
SUNY Buffalo: higher

Please chance back:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/752527-what-my-chances-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

i feel U Delaware is a good match because u seem like a pretty competitive student
why dont u expand and try applying to some higher tier colleges?

Please chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/752461-any-shot-usc-ucla-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

You should look at SUNY IT in Utica if you are interested in Engineering. It has great programs, plus the dorms are really like townhouses. Will you still play soccer?

My school has a link on its website and show every kid who ever applied to every college on a scatter plot graph and if I went by that and all it takes into consideration is SATs and Gpa this is what it would look like.

University of Delaware - Low Reach
University of Massachusetts Amherst - Low Reach
University of New Hampshire - Low Match
Penn State - High Match
SUNY Buffalo - High Safety
But it will be harder to get in for engineering

I really don’t know much about these scores, but try to up those SAT scores significantly, and things should go smoother :)

I don’t know much about the schools that you are interested in but Im sorry to say that your low class rank, barely above average composite scores and some below average subscores, and lack of APs will hurt you almost anywhere. A good essay/interview can work wonders for you. . .i don’t know what else to say though since im not familiar with the schools. If you want more info try the “how do i stack up” at college board. Chance me please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/753440-chances-any-all-ivies-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I think most of the schools your looking at are at worst lower reaches. Have you considered SUNY Oneonta?

University of Delaware-reach
University of Massachusetts Amherst-match
University of New Hampshire-match
Penn State-high reach
SUNY Buffalo-match

Dude I’m looking into engineering too, and its pretty brutal out there with a low gpa like yours (and mine).
Here’s what I think:
University of Delaware-- Low Reach (SATs)
University of Massachusetts Amherst-- High Match
University of New Hampshire-- Don’t know much about it, sorry.
Penn State-- REACH (satellite campuses are worth a serious look though)
SUNY Buffalo-- Match

you could also take a look at Arizona State U. Its really a great ENGINEERING SCHOOL for how competitive admissions are. It’s 37th in the nation according to U.S. News tied with Case Western, and just below UC-Boulder. Also SAT scores could open up many doors for you.
