I’d say you’re at best a low match, probably a high reach, especially if out of state.

if umich makes you cry why do you want to go here. Going here and doing engineering would just make you cry more.

My named is UMichMakesemcry because I want to attend UMich but I don’t know if i will get accepted or even have a chance.

You definitely have a chance, just make sure that you have people read your essays/edit them. The admission counselors can infer a lot from a person’s essays
Also, the fact that your parents’ highest level of edu. is high school and you have a low income would help (I was in the same boat and got in LSA EA). That said, I think you would have a much higher chance applying to LSA simply because CofE tends to care a lot about standardized scores.
This is not a fact, just what I’ve observed from decision threads

Have you ever thought of taking the ACTs? Many people seem to do better on it. Perhaps you should call UM and ask if they would still accept February test results? Just a suggestion if you’re too worried!
You could PM me if you have any questions, want help on your essays, etc.
Good luck! :)

Ok well applied EA this year and was deferred. My stats are VERY similar to yours:
SAT:2080 800 M 610 R 670 W
W GPA 3.7
SAT 2s: Math 2: 670 Physics: 720

Applied as undecided within Engineering OOS

Worked on my essays the whole summer, diverse ECs and leadership with a boatload of APs.

So I hate to be a pessimist but I don’t think you will be accepted, maybe wait listed.
I’ve pretty much moved on even though uMich is my first choice. I have been accepted to Purdue and Georgia Tech Engineering.

Good luck !

My advice to anyone wanting to get into Michigan Engineering:

Say you’re going to do Chem-E. Write an essay about chemistry or something. Its the lowest ranked department and they won’t expect as much out of you. Once you get accepted, you can then major in whatever you want.

Remember that UM will recalculate your gpa to remove weighting and take out “non-core” classes like art, foreign language, etc. Also, your freshman classes don’t count towards your gpa. If the recalculation brings your UW gpa above a 3.8 you have much better chances.
