chance please, will chance back

hahaha no it isnt just that; i am from NJ. Delbarton’s a great school (a little pricey is all), and I’m serious when i say you’re pretty much set for all of those school

Hey I’m a recruited athlete at MIT as well. Your academic stats look amazing. Your extra curriculars are looking pretty good as well. However, you didn’t mention very many leadership roles or community service activities? According to what you listed, you look like you have a really good chance at all the schools you are applying to. Like everyone said, college admissions is a crapshoot so you never know! Best of luck!

Thanks everyone haha. I know it really doesn’t guarantee anything whatsoever, but it’s just nice to hear kind words (true or untrue) from anyone this time of the process…ha.

I’ll try to chance back all the people that have linked their threads, so be patient!!

StarbucksBarista: That’s awesome! What sport? And yeah, I listed what I consider the main ECs I’m involved with. I really didn’t have time for extensive community service, but over all I have done 200+ hours with SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). My leadership roles, to be more clear I guess, would be the coaching/managing a swim team with about 100 kids in the summer, club team captain, high school team captain, debate team leadership position in my event, economics club senior leader, and from there on they get less and less significant.

@limdelbarton
Soccer! Specifically I’m a goalkeeper (and a girl if you couldn’t tell). You definitely look like a strong applicant to all your schools. Whats your #1 choice atm?

It seems like with your grades, SAT scores, and swimming, you will have a good shot at all of these schools.

Early Decision: Penn (Wharton) - Probably over a 50/50 shot
Early Action (Unrestrictive): MIT (preferred recruit) I don’t know too much about MIT admissions, but it sounds like you would make it being a preferred recruit
UChicago - In
Dartmouth - Good shot
Duke - Good shot
Harvard - Always a crap shoot. I’d say pick a number 1-6 and roll a die. If it lands on the number you were thinking of, you’re in
Rice - In

Thanks for chancing on my thread! You’re a pretty good match for basically all of your schools esp. your ED/EA ones. I’ll basically repeat what you said about Harvard and say yeah, it’s hard to tell. But since it seems to not be your first choice, good luck with Penn! It’s got a beautiful campus, at least in my opinion.

I think you have an excellent shot, especially at Rice. Go for it!

bummpppppp

“Chicago-In”

Now that is a strong statement.
USNEWS #5, RD acceptance rate will be 9-13% and EA acceptance rate will be below 20%.

I attended an elite “feeder school” to uchicago and my academic credentials were better than OP. (OP is an athlete and that is great.)
My GC made very clear to me that uchicago was a reach school.

Am I missing something here?

BTW, 2 of my friends with 2350+ and 4.0 were waitlisted from uchicago.

Yeah, in previous years, Chicago’s acceptance rate was near 30% but it has become much more selective this year. My interviewer did shoot me an email and tell me he would give me the “highest ratings possible,” which he had only done 1 other time before. Not sure how much the interviews help, anyways, though.

i actually believe you have decent chances at every college.
(strong athlete with good academic credentials)

however, there is no such thing as “you are in” or “match (whatever that is)” at the very top colleges. most unhooked applicants have less than 5-6% chance of getting into top 10 colleges.

its a good thing that your interviewer liked you a lot.
but i don’t think interview matters very much.
my mit interviewer said the same thing but i was deferred.

anyway, good luck to you.
you will get into some great colleges.

As a UChicago alumnus interviewer, I can confirm that interviews mean very little, and a good portion of alumni are aware of that fact.

I don’t understand why everyone is giving OP good shots. He has a decent shot, but he still has plenty of reach schools on his list.

Likely, he’ll get into Wharton ED (it’s not as selective as its reputation indicates, especially for ED). But honestly, he probably won’t get into Chicago EA if he didn’t take time to take an interview (as expressed interest is very important), and will likely only get into MIT if he’s recruited.

thanks phuriku. you would say Chicago EA is more selective than Wharton ED? And also, I did have my Chicago interview. My interviewer even talked to the regional director to ask about research opportunities for me, so I think the interest quota has been fulfilled

Well, I had assumed that you didn’t take a Chicago interview, since you mentioned that “both of your interviews had gone well,” and you spoke about both your MIT and Penn interviews.

Chicago EA and Wharton ED are approximately equally selective. Someone in another thread recently calculated Wharton ED’s acceptance rate to be in the low 20s. Last year, Chicago’s EA acceptance rate was 20%, and with the rise in applications this year, it will likely be in the mid-teens. Being conservative and assuming the Wharton pool is slightly higher quality than the Chicago pool, I would say that Chicago EA and Wharton ED have about the same selectivity. MIT EA is, of course, (slightly) more selective than both of these schools, with an EA acceptance rate in the low teens.

I think you’ll get into one of your ED/EA schools, but it’s hard to say which one, since they’re all rather selective.

Yeah I made this post before I had my Chicago interview, which was very recent.

If Wharton’s acceptance rate (ED) is 20%, it seems that makes it the least selective out of the three. No complaints there since it’s my first choice.
